Hi all. I've tried searching this topic but was unable to find a suitable answer. I'm trying to us an old OBD II tester to retreive codes. I dont have any reason to believe there are any codes stored but I just wanted to see if it would work. The tester powers up and goes through a testing sequence but all that comes up is flasing 8888. Am I doing something wrong or is the tester unsuitable for this vehicle? It is an Actron cp9035 OBD II dignostic tester, probably about ten years old. Thanks in advance.Ron 2008 Nissan Versa HB.

I believe 2007+ cars require CAN-Bus scanners. From what I can gather, they are an all digital system using the same ODB-II head. Either that or it runs at 500MHz for faster data transfers. Some cars dating back to 2004, like my Mazda 6 has this system. You just need a newer scanner. The huge odb2 scanner at my mech.'s shop thats 12 yrs old can't scan it. However, his home scanner thats the size of a stop watch he got for Chrismas can scan and reset. Keep an eye out I believe Acton has newer scanners that are upgradeable or even natively can-bus compatible.

Thanks. I figured that was probably the case. I guess I'll have to look into getting a new one at some point.

The SCII is an always pluged in tool which reads rpm, fuel economy and lots of other stuff along with engine codes. A pretty neat tool, just google scanguage 2 and you can go to the site. However, as a scanner/tester/reseter I found it not as good. It does not tell you what the code is just the P0000 code. Yes you can reset them but just not as convenient as a hand tool if thats all you need.

Hi K-Wing, I have been drooling over a Scangauge now for some time, have read the info and think it would be a nice addition to the Versa. I find the V's gas tank hard to refill consistently as it seems to develope an air-lock and keep kicking off the nozzle when it's still down, one, to one and a half gallons.

I can get it full if I just slowly trickle the gas in. I would like to get my MPG figures right, but with the fill up problems all I can do is tinkle it in till it over flows. I am leary of doing this every time as it might foul up the fuel evap' system.

I have had OEM trip computer systems on cars I have had for years, but alas the Versa is not one of them.

My question is then, do you know how accurate the Scangauge is in calculating the MPG's? Does it only do the "instant"MPG while you are driving, or does it also calculate "Average Fuel used since last refill"

Hope someone can help on this one...it's a $159.00 item..(my wife says.."Toy")

From their website, (http://www.scangauge.com/features/tripcomputer.shtml) it does sport the functions you would want: trip economy and actual used.

I myself do not own one of these tools, I only know about it because I am in the market for a can-bus compatible scanner. I cannot vouch for it's accuracy. Based on the threads on different forums, scion and miata I believe, they swear by it.

To me it also feels like a toy, mainly because of the digital guages which I would probably never use. An excuse around this is this product is a fully functioning trip computer and a engine code reader.

I would probably pick one of these up for my new Versa, but that comes after a set of winter tires as I do go north to Blue Mountain to ski and what not. Add to the fact that I just emptied my bank account buying the Versa and my desire to buy a set of skiboards and the mods I would want for the Versa... it would be well into the year before I do get one.

Oh, and for the fueling problems, certain pumps make my Mazda 6 click way too prematurely, namely the Esso stations in Toronto. I would just keep in mind how much fuel that car would need based on what the gas gauge says. Not that this would help with your calculations one bit.

Thanks for your info on the Scanguage, I also have a Honda Odyssey that I could plug it into for my long 6000 km trip to Texas every year. "

"Really Honey, if I use it in both cars, it will only cost half as much"

The Honda is nice to refill tho, clicks off when its full and that's that.T he ^&* Versa refills are a nightmare of spilt gas, wasted time at the pump and possibly ruining my fuel evap' system.

Even the "Old Blue Van" (my 1992 AWD Dodge Caravan) has a nice trip computer in it that is very accuate. Switches from Standard to Metric Units and has a compass and outside temp read out.

To overcome these option-deficiencies in the Versa I have added a Donnelly 'compass-outside temp, night time auto dimming mirror'...I also put one in the Honda Odyssey, IMHO, they are the best.

I think I will go for the Scangauge to fill in the last missing info, while we drive endlessly through Alberta, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, New Mexico and Nortrhern Texas, hoping to see an Antelope, or Armadillo to break up the boredom.

buy an extra wire for each car so you done have to keep removing it. if you are towing a trailor you can program to show transmission temperature too. check"www.scangauge/support/xgauge"it give only the code when you scan for error. "google the code" and you will know what wrong with it.

Good Advice PFC, thanks I will get an extra cord.

Sounds like you have some experience with the product..do you think it's accurate on the MPG feature?

The numbers on this readout ....look like they came from a Hemi in a high speed chase!

I have been thinking about the accuracy of the SG2 (not the Stargate team btw...). It bases all the information from what the ecu puts out. Fuel consumption and trip consumption calculations are simple enough so any scientific graphing calculator can handle. That said wouldn't the tool's accuracy be dependent on the accuracy of the ecu?

Now that you mention it, it has to work that way...as the gauge has to get it's info from the ECu, then 'don't shoot the messinger' if it's wrong.

I will stop obsessing about it and just buy one.

The one thing I can't stop obsessing about however is our V's wildly fluctuating MPG numbers.

From bad, to way too bad.

We also have an Odyssey and a Versa. No difference or problems at all in filling either of them, even at different stations and pumps. Don't know what might be giving you trouble filling the Versa. (And I've fill the tank a few times on each!)

I have had fuel fill woes since the first trip to the pump with my Versa...on 2 fronts, one; getting it to re-fill to 'full' without clicking off a dozen times and endlessly gurgling, and gagging like I was trying to drown it. two; wondering where all that gas was going so fast..

I am now wondering if the Versa has some sort of 'backflow valve' built into the gas tank breather system that might be sticking shut.

I seem to be the only one having this issue on this forum, so there must be a good reason why mine won't fill and yours will.

I am also going to check today and see if a Scan Gauge would tell me what the air/fuel mixture is....mine might be running very rich, as it sucks gas like an old farm truck.
