so i got a pretty cheap ipod nano 3rd gen on ebay. it should arrive this week. YEAH i know, i hate ipods, but these ones are so damn small and i want to listen to tiesto podcasts and well, lets face it, my pioneer deck will be awesome with ipod interface. im SICK of the USB it doesnt read half of the music no matter what i do.

my question...do i need a stupid special cable? or is the supplied usb cable the one that will work? if i have to get a new cable ima just say screw it enough is enough lol

Didn't indicate what radio you have, but it seems you have a pioneer fh-P800BT. With that said, this unit comes with a USB Cable, that you can hook up your Ipod too. With this cable you won't have to touch the Ipod once connected., You will be able to control the Ipod via the Pioneer head unit.

I used to have a radio similar to the pioneer fh-P800BT and did the same in my GTI.

It charges the Ipod as well. Just need to disconnect when you want to update songs.

Actually you do if you want to use the ipod interface on deck. The deck usually comes with wire you can plug into a ipod but you have to use the ipod it self to change songs. You have to buy ipod data cable for pioneer 25 bucks, so you can change songs threw your deck.

im wondering why your usb doesnt work 100%? flash drives cost A LOT less than ipods......... what kind of flash drive are you using? I have NO problems with my sandisk cruzer, and my sony microvault.....

i bought a chinese no-name flash drive off ebay that claimed to be 4gb.... checking the drive properties in windows confirmed it was 4gb.... i loaded up 4gb of music but anything after 2gb would not work. The files were all there but anything that was loaded up after 2gb was reached, had a file size of 0mb and would not play (both on computer and in car, so i know the pioneer wasnt at fault). so stay away from cheap flash drives.....

I know for sure you don't. I don't touch my Ipod. The Radio already comes with a USB cable. You plug your IPod (with the USB cable) to the female usb that the radio supplies and that is it.

Radios that does not have USB support, you will have to do that. these have USB Support and I know for sure, as I am already running this on my GTI.

You can see it here as well.

kingblingy you rock. im looking forward to plug n play now

heres the story behind my choice to buy an ipod

-bluetooth audio is ok, but quality isnt perfect and you cant see song info on deck, just change forward track and reverse-i tried literally a dozen differnt usb. i even bought a 120GB external hard drive, no difference. I tinkered wiht and removed id3 tags, only helped with some songs. i literally have given up. i hear this is a common problem with the newer pioneers. I loved how i could go thru folders and such with the usb drives, exactly like ipod.

i ended up getting the ipod because its a easy way to transfer music over with proper tags, quick and easy connectivity to my system, itll look great when i have a custom, stealth location to dock it, and, i am very much into rollerblading adn do alot of things that can make me fall pretty easily, so a tiny ipod is alot easier to carry around. I bought bluetooth headphones to pair with my phone and that was useless as the constant up and down motion caused them to cut out every 5 seconds. I ALSO like how i can hear DJ Tiesto Podcasts. In all i decided to just give it a shot. im sick of usb and screwing with it and i dont want to get rid of this deck cuz i LOVE how it loooks, sounds, and how well it works for calls, so BAM ipod it is, i cant wait, and i might get a high capacity ipod in the fewer if the bug bites me. Im giving it a chance as USB has failed me too much already.

another thing sparking interest to me...satellite radio. AJRK wants to do it up in his q and weve been talking about it quite a bit and i might get into it,,,,then again...i dont like payin for music especially if i cant record and own it. ahhh dilemmas. damn ipod better work flawless with this deck.

Welcome to the dark side.

Nice, trust me , you will not be disappointed with the iPod and P8000BT. It works really well, Qxxx4! No extra cable required. Just use the one in the box with the headunit and your iPod cable I have mine in my glove box, it does look sick, people are always asking where is my iPod , where is my music, and the passenger mode is awesome. Great for those people that seem to always wanna put prints on my sexy faceplate. Only recommendation, don't leave it in the car overnight. I found out that -20C hurts the LiOn battery. Some mornings I have to stick the iPod between my legs just to warm it up to start up.

satellite radio is alrite. i have mine setup so that i can listen in my house, or i just take the unit (which is small) and plug it in the qx4 (i have the wires in the glove box) and crystal clear digital audio on tap. Although im probably gonna cancel it cause $110 a year is a lot! You might like some of the trance channels, they play more oakenfold than tiesto.

i agree, it sucks not being able to record the music. but most of the time it says the name so you can write it down. its a grea way to learn new songs. Also, my unit records whatever you listen to, for up to an hour. so if you hear a song you love you have it right there for up to an hour.

...if you "fall pretty easily", maybe rollerblading isn't for you...maybe it's time to find a new hobby.. and if falling is your thing, the nano's gonna let you down..those things are rather fragile. The old bulky ones stand up to more abuse than the sleek sexy ones. Or put it in some bubble wrap or something if you intend on fallerblading.

I hate you for going to the desert. I wanna go! I miss Corral Canyon and the Calico mountains...I used to rollerblade...but it requires physical exursion and to no real meaningful end, IMO, so I gave it up...We resorted, instead to hurling each other down flights of stairs in apple boxes..much more entertaining and it's free...(I was like 8 then...I've since graduated to more mature things, like pushing people off sand bluffs)
