using Defi Tach, not sure if setup is right

I have a RB25det, my question is that on my S14 stock cluster, i'm using a after market tach from Defi, and the unit is set for 6 cylinder. but the defi tach gauge looks like it isn't reading right and the stock is (feels like over reving ). the defi is off by 1-2k, what the person did was tap the defi tach off the 240's cluster. Do I have to setup the defi tach for 4 cylinder instead of 6.
