I have been reading some of the posts regarding the use of BG44K and I had a few questions.

1. Why does the oil need to be changed after the 2nd can of BG?

2. Why does the fuel filter need to be replaced as well?

Reading Jesda post, http://www.q45.org/roughidle.html he mentions using BG every 2 months to help keep the fuel system clean.

I want to add the BG44K to my normal preventative maintenance for my car.

After running through a tank of fuel with 44K in it, you'll probably notice that the oil looks a lot darker. This happens because as the 44K dissolves deposits in the intake tract, a lot of the residue from those deposits ends up in the motor oil - Not good!

Quote »2. Why does the fuel filter need to be replaced as well?[/quote]The 44K tends to "loosen up" crap in your fuel tank, some of which ends up in the fuel filter - Also not good!

So every two cans of BG44K or two tanks of gas, I need to change the oil and fuel filter?

The idea behind changing the oil, is a theory that the BG44K can leave a residue on the cylinder walls that can get pulled down into the crankcase by the piston rings. I personally don't think it's a huge deal - in fact I usually put the can in after an oil change because I forget to do so before hand.

The idea behind the fuel filter is that you're going to loosen up some deposits and scale in the fuel tubes, and possibly some deposits will be returned to the tank via the return line. I would replace the filter once or twice per year after the initial BG use. Are you planning on using the 44k in every tank? I would say it's overkill - but that depends on how horrible your gas is, I guess.

As does EVERY professional tech when using BG44k-do you really think they tell you to come BACK for an oil change a tank of fuel later AFTER they service your car???? I bet 99.99999% of bg44k is put in customers tanks AFTER a full service including oil change!!

In part it is the idea that some of the super strong detergents may end up in the crankcase and accellerate the shear failure rate of a crankcase of used oil.

Since the Q seems to start "craving" a can of 44K at just about the same interval as when an oil change is due, it just works out handy to run through a full tankful of 44K right before the oil change. Since you're probably going to be doing the work yourself, it's no inconvenience to do it that way.

I agree that the fuel filter probably doesn't need to be changed as often as the motor oil. However, on a new-to-you vehicle, after that first can of 44K - most definitely replace it, since you don't know what kind of crud is in your tank or how long it's been accumulating there.

Is your gas mileage supposed to get worse when you use BG44K?

?

What? If anything, it gets better. Better spray pattern from your injectors, better emissions, more cowbell, better mileage, everything.

How do you figure worse mileage? If that was the case, why would anyone use it? People swear by BG 44K and would drink it if they could.

The mileage is controlled by O2 sensors within their +-20% range.

If all 8 injectors are functioning unlikely that BG44k will change anything mpgwise unless you have a misfire.

What are symptoms of a misfire? We changed the spark plugs over the summer, but I don't think we checked to see if the injectors were actually working.

At 190k miles the O2 sensor is a probability. How hard are they to replace?

Another factor is probably the severely degraded front tires I just replaced over the weekend.

Of course, it may all be in my head too.

I think symptoms are rough/uneven idle. I might be wrong.

Hey Haitian. Have you been able to win some BG44k off of eBay yet?

When I used BG44k I could tell a real difference in performance. I gave some to Jeff Williams and he said he couldn't tell much. I figured he just keeps a cleaner Q.

I have a can just waiting. Last time I used it on a long trip with 3/4 gas. Should I just go ahead and use it or wait for a road trip?

You may have six (wins over Bama) but we've got 12 (national championships!) We'll get you next year.

Any issues with BG44K with a turbo? Obviously no change if using it in the fuel but in the oil there would be...

I stopped bidding. I decided to just buy a can right before my next oil change. That's coming up soon.

I know BG makes an oil additive. The 44K is for the fuel system. The only product I know that can do the fuel, air system, and oil system with one can is Seafoam.

Jesda knows more about it than I do though. I've just read a couple of posts here and there on other forums.

So if I understand all the comments, it is best to change the oil after the 2 can of 44K to prevent any other problems from cropping up.

I guess. I plan on changing my oil after I drop in one can. 2 cans, 6 cans, it's good to change the oil after an application.

I'm using just a single can of 44K. The instructions say that it treats up to 20 gallons of gas, which is pushing it a little bit on a Q with 21-1/8 gallons of gas in a full tank. I prefer my mixture a little more concentrated anyway, so I dump the 44K in a quarter tank of gas, and then immediately add another quarter tank of gas to mix it up (i.e., 1 can for 10 gallons).

Is there a negative effect if you were to put in 2 cans in a full tank?
