I need a new engine and was considering purchasing a neo RB25det since they have come down on the prices over the years. I already have the AEM EMS and read that you have to swap out the CAS disk.

-Has anyone ever used AEM on a NEO Engine?
-And if so how?
-Does the series 2 black top CAS work without the disk?
-Will the disk even work with the newer style black CAS?

Im guessing on the CAS but i would assume it would work.. as people have swaped them between series of motors during camshaft swaps.

I would adapt your current Rb25 harness and ignition coils onto the NEO motor..

What happened to your old motor?

You didn't tell us what EMS you have. Series 1 or 2? The RB25DET EMS part number is 6620.

Its may work since ue changing the complete harness, the s1/s2 n neo have different ecu plug so u wold have to anyways. N u will have to change some wires on the cas also

I don't even want to get into what happened to my old motor.....

I mean I have the series 1 harness and ill be using all the series 1 sensors plus the IAT and MAP so I should be good in that department. I considered changing out the cams but with the NEO engine having solid lifters and the series 1 having hydraulic, I would think the clearance on both would be different. I was thinking in order to make the series 1 cas work with the series 2 neo cams, they would need some sort of machining....And if that's the case then I would just purchase another series 1

I called AEM about the series 2 black top CAS working with the 1st AEM EMS but they didn't have much to say. I have the AEM 30-1621U

R33 series 1and 2 Cam angle sensors will not work with R34 NEO cams, the drive on the CAS and the end of the cams are different from the R33.

Series 1 and 2 R33 engines interchange CAS R34 NEO is whats different. Also, a common misconception when looking at Tomei's camshaft application sheet... ask me how i know..lol

Checked on SAU and they say that the neo cams don't interchange with the S1 or S2 head....Looks like this is a no go unless someone can confirm that it works...

NEO cams don't interchange because they are meant for solid lifter vs the the R33 hydro's

They prob just used a S1 cas with the Neo key? If I remember right you can use a punch tool to get the pin out of the key? Hope that makes some kinda sense?

If the neo's shaft is the same you could just punch the S1 key out and use the neo shaft?

Have u had both side by side and measured? Looks like it would work. The neo cas shaft looks a lot longer than the S1 cas.

I wonder if a local machenist can make it work? Making the neo cas end slide onto s1 cas shaft?

It could still be possible. If you look at my pic and the pic of the neo CAS they look the same length to the bearing. If it has those 2 screws like the mitsu unit then you can swap the whole shaft out. You would need to get the bearing off 1st tho and I remember it been a pain in the a** lol. I didn't mess it up because the car runs with the AEM CAS disc.

Idk if this would be easier or even a viable option but rawbrokerage just started selling a haltech P&P specifically for the NEO, roughly the same price, might just be easier, unless you already have the AEM.

Spoke with a guy on Facebook forum. Found out that a SR20 CAS AEM disk will work?!?!? If you look at the 2, they both kinda look the same. Might have a winner
