well i was just wondering if anyone is using a ka transmission on an sr20?i ran into some issues with my transmission at the end of the season so i need to figure out something for the spring. if so what are the pros and cons of using one. the car is getting completely built right now im going to be making 450+whp this season and is going to be getting used for drag so i need something that will hold up to some abuse. im also wondering what the gearing will be like in the 1/4. at the end of last season i was reving out 4th when i crossed the 1/4. will the ka be higher or lower?

any help will be much appreciated guys

The gearing difference is almost unnoticeable, although 5th is a little taller. You need to swap the sr bell housing, and you might need to trim the dust cap area off of the KA rear section of the transmission in order for your 1 piece drive shaft to fit properly. You could swap the sr rear section too, but it is a little more difficult. The Z32 adapter is pretty pricey but will offer a stronger transmission option.

I put up a how to on doing the bellhousing swap (it's listed in the SR FAQ). Gear ratios between the transmissions are identical save for 5th, so you won't notice any difference in gearing unless you're cruising in 5th, and even then it's only a few hundred RPM.

If you're trying to get better 1/4 mile times, I would suggest doing research on gear ratios and what would suit you best. You'll probably have better luck doing a rear end gear change or changing the diameter of your tires.
