Went too long between oil changes, and now I need to replace my
nissan pathfinder engine since no local shops are willing to tear it down and fix the sludge/damage.
I'm trying to figure out what the best route to take is. Option 1 is going with a low-mileage used engine, or Option 2 is going with a brand new OEM long block straight from Nissan. The total cost difference looks like it's going to be around $4,000 to $5,000 between the two options once labor is factored in.
For anyone who has dealt with a swap on these vehicles, is the peace of mind and warranty of a new long block worth the extra cash, or should I just save the money and roll the dice on a solid used motor?
