Hey All,

I switched over to M1 synthetic at about 65k miles, about 2 years ago, I now have 85k. I've had 3 analyses completed by Blackstone, the first two done at 5k miles on the synthetic, and the last time around I went nearly 9k miles, although I had to add about a quarter quart in between changes.

Despite my request to keep some of the old Dino oil, my mechanic dumped the last batch, so I never did feel like I got a "baseline" so to speak, and because my first synthetic analysis came back with "high lead levels" I've been a little worried. Hence running the oil through blackstone for 3 of my last 3 changes.

On to the point/question/concern of the post:

Can any other members comment on how their VQ35HR tests have come back with respect to "lead levels"?

Ironically, the oil I ran the longest has had the lower of the 3 PPM levels, 10, 11, & 9, respectively. But Blackstone says these are all a bit high...whether that means relatively for these motors, or they mean universally for all motors? Not really sure.

Anyone have any comments from Blackstone or other labs that comment to the lead levels?

Thanks!

I can't say I have had experience with the HR motor (oil analysis) but, I have been following a post over the years regarding the VQ35DE motor - I've included the link for you to read thru - very good information and breakdown of various oils. I've relied on some of the information in the thread as a guide to which oils to use and stay away from... I'm sure someone may have done the same for the HR motor.

which oil weight have you been using with Mobil 1? The oil analysis in the thread shows low lead levels for the Mobil 1 high mileage and all other weights.

Cool, thanks CPJ. I guess the HR vs DE is probably not that significant of a difference either...so anyone with DE tests and input, I'd certainly appreciate as well.

Thank you, CPJ for sharing that link! That is the most in-depth, non-biased oil comparison I have ever read. I drive an 09 M35 with the VQ35HR engine. I have always been a firm believer in Mobil-1 5w30. After reviewing the UOA's I am considering a switch to Penzoil Platinum. After 6 UOA's Penzoil performed with less wear and in some cases, better than average desired levels. Specifically, Mobil showed lead levels of 1.9 and Penzoil came in at 0.525 ... an 80% improvement. Additionally, Mobil showed high deviation for Chromium and Iron but Penzoil showed lower than than average deviation.

Here is an analysis on the HR engine after 5,000 miles on Penzoil:

and another HR result after over 7,000 miles on Penzoil (different model Nissan):

Thanks for sharing your UOA's Larz, it makes me really worried about my lead levels then. And perhaps for my next oil I should give the Pennzoil a try.
