I found a used jwt ecu on CL and have a couple of questions.

I have a 90 na 2/2 with 100000 miles that I'd like to tweak a little bit. Only thing I've done is add a stillen cone air filter kit. I'm also planning to put on a 2.5" cat back exhaust as the factory exhaust is getting leaky.

So my questions are:

1. Is it likely for an Ecu to go bad? Is there any reason to avoid a used one? The car it's coming out of threw a rod and so is being parted out.

2. It's designed for 370 cc injectors, but mine are stock. The guy who has it said he ran it with stock injectors for a few months before he swapped his out and it did fine. I hadn't really planned on injectors in the near future. Will this be a problem? Will I see any performance gains without new injectors?

Thanks!!!

Scott

On an N/A, with stock 270cc you'll be getting a very lean condition and possible detonation when using an ECU tuned for 370cc. It's dangerous. Was the guy running the ECU on an N/A or TT?

It was an N/A. He sent me a pic of the unit and it has a JWT label, and states N/A, Manual, 370 cc injectors.

Other things I've read say that bigger injectors in N/A Z's don't make a difference. This must not be true if this ECU is designed for bigger injectors???

Thanks for the reply.

How much is he selling it for? It could always be used as a back up or you can get it tuned for what you have since its already socketed. Then you can turn around and sell yours if you wish. ECU don't normally go bad. Stadsport on projectZ does tuning to chips and I think the cost is only $50 for only the chip. Very knowledgeable, vouch for his work.

Bigger injectors don't make too much of a difference unless your able to get more air, bigger displacement, more exhaust flow. Then you would need it tuned for what you have installed, but still, the gains are not usually worth the cost.

He said he'd take $125. Since new ones from JWT are over $500, I thought this was a good price. Am I wrong?

Not a bad price at all. I'd jump on it for the purpose of it being socketed. Even IPP, one of the best sites around, charges $300 for a socketed ECU, and requires a core turn in.

I would do what Ace says......

....he has connections for you to disappear...Seriously, that is a really good price, I would jump all over it.
