I bought a 1996 J30 from an Infinity dealer with 54 thousand miles. Thedealer's shop did some work on it after their inspection and it camewith a 6 month warranty. They downloaded the Infinity repair historyfor me and it looks as if the previous owner did normal service. Italso had a clean CarFax report. In a moment of weakness I also purchased a 2 year warranty for $1,700covering engine, trans and electrical, exclusive of normal wear items.I'm thinking of canceling the 2 year warranty, which the contractsays I can.Any opinions on this kind of warranty or the potential for trouble onused J30's in general.

That's not a cheap warranty and J30's are geenrally among the most reliable cars money can buy...

On the other hand just 2 medium repairs and you have done better than break even.

i would just go ahead and purchase the warranty then complain about every rattle you hear. like fred said, if you're not a DIY'er then 1-2 trips to the dealer can easily exceed that amount. Consider how many miles you'll be putting on it in those 2 years to help you decide.

If you lived anywhere other than SF area, I'd say cancel it. But people have found the dealers in that area are super-crazy-expensive, so you're probably better off keeping it.

But you could always THREATEN to cancel it and see if they'll wiggle on the price. Most extended warranties are negotiable. It's just a "dealer add on" with a profit margin for the dealer. (But might be too late?!?)

Chances are the extended warranty is provided by a third party, not Infiniti/Nissan. (But purchasing from dealer and having them file all the claims for you makes life easier.)

Keep the warranty!I purchased my 96 J30 in 6/99 and the extended warranty has already paid for itself.

KEEP IT!

I paid $1550 for 3 years on my 95Q, so you might have paid a little much. However, in the first 9 months I incurred $4400 in repairs at the dealer.

Wasn't there a warranty company advertising on this site?

I would check around as I found many for my 93J for cheaper but I was over the 60K mi minimum to get a contract.

Most places will give you a warranty until 100K mi

Check around. Also the one you have should have a waiiting period on it that allows you to cancel it without penalty. Read the fine print a this is something they do not want you to readily view

Good luck

btw, check the better business bureau (online) when you find a few you like. I was amazed that alot of these companies had state action against them for not honoring their contracts. Very informative.

I really like mine. It'll take me to 115K (or until November 2004). No problems with denying service. http://www.warrantybynet.com

Based on the fine counsel I've gotten her I've decided to hang on to the warranty. I spoke to the dealership and they indicated the one year of free oil changes and inspections could be used for the two years of the warranty. Thanks for your experienced thinking.

"Too bad they will not warranty a 93 only 94 and above"Even 94 [many made in spring 93] are 9 almost 10 years old.

4 years past the factory warranty is iffy to say the least but if it cost $1500 per year [every 15,000 miles purchased] like the Range Rover ............who would buy. The problem is the failures are not necessarily full failures just out of spec wear which cannot be covered cost effectively.
