I'm buying a used Fidanza flywheel to save some coin. I was wondering about the removable friction surface plate.

It is possible to get that resurfaced and use it, or should you replace the plate. I was under the impression that the plate lasts awhile and the replacement ones are there for when it gets to low, but I read somewhere that the plate needs to be replaced every time as opposed to a resurface.

Anyone know anything about this?

You should replace it, they're pretty thin, so could warp easy. If it's for a KA, i've got an extra brand new fidanza friction plate (i bought an extra when I replaced it on mine) You can email me if interested. Just would need to get your own hardware or reuse the hardware you've got if you want to go that route. [email protected]

I haven't purchased it yet. I probably am as its a killer deal. Once I get it in the mail and check it out I'll e-mail you about that plate.

So if I bought your plate I can just reuse the current friction plates hardware? Because I noticed the plates like the ones from summit come with new screws and stuff. I personally wouldn't see much of a problem reusing them, and would use a light thread locker (yellow) or something.

Most recommend replacing the hardware as once torque, the threads stretch somewhat, but i've known people to successfully reuse hardware for tens of thousands of miles. It's somewhat of a gamble. I would replace the hardware if it has higher mileage on it. But lower mileage you could probably reuse it just fine, use a blue threadlocker. It's up to you.

you need to replace the friction surface because when the machine the flywheel, they grind the full surface, sometimes in steps. that means if you only do the center and nothing else your gonna have problems. so get a new plate.

Im kinda confused as to what you mean the full surface. Couldn't the place technically just resurface that friction plate?

Dan: I just bought the flywheel and when it gets here I will use the new PM system to let you know about that plate. Most likely I will be buying it from you.

Well, there's really not enough material on the friction plate to mill any off of anyway, which the main reason to replace it. When they resurface a flywheel, it's like a brake rotor, starting from the middle and working out, the friction plate is only a small area, it'd be difficult to do, if one were to even try. It's not worth it.

Good deal, if the pm's are having issues (since it's a new system) just email me.

well the reason they machine the full face of the flywheel is because the pressure plate is bolted to the flywheel and there needs to be a certain distance between both friction surfaces (flywheel and pressure plate). if they only machine the friction surface on the flywheel then when you bolt up the pressure plate there will be more space where the clutch disk rides, making less clamping force. understand a little better?
