Are used coilovers a bad idea? The ones I'm looking at are Tein HRs; they look to be in great condition, I'm checking on how many miles are on them, and I'd be saving a TON of money getting these used ones rather than brand new. I'm pretty much financially limited to a spring/shock combo or some used coilovers (a good set of new coilovers isn't practical for me right now). If they're low mileage, is it worth the money?

(BTW, I tried to search this forum and got 0 matches for "used", so don't kill me if this question's been asked many times before :))

It is a gamble at best. Go by what your gut says, and don't cry if they turn out to be turds.

yea, i bought some used, turned out to be a good deal, but it is a gamble as they might be blown, or close to it and you can never tell.

Its like buying a used engine;) Its a high wear part that is designed to wear out. The moment they are put on a car, they begin to wear. I have bought used wheels and used exhaust, but those kind of things are what you see is what you get as they don't wear. Just use your head: if they look like crap, they prob. are. Good luck, and keep us posted!!!!

Well, here's the ones I'm looking at specifically:

The pictures look OK, and they're being sold by Jarco, which I've heard pretty good things about. But, I don't know......after driving my friend's A2 chassis VW GTI with just springs and shocks (no adjustable coilovers), I'm pretty convinced I'd be happy just going that route :D
