Have read some threads here and there on this forum and wanted to register and ask for the advice and thoughts of people who might have cross-shopped these cars.

I'm looking at a 2011 G37 coupe, low miles, all the usual bells and whistles, versus a 2010 MB E350 coupe with not quite as low mileage and lots of options -- but not as many as the G37. Basically what the G37 has, minus HID lighting, backup camera, and parking sonar.

I've test driven both briefly and enjoyed both. The E350 was a bit smoother over bumps; road noise seemed to come out in the wash in my head; the G37 is a little more fun to drive, but the MB has that typical Mercedes composure.

I know I'm on a Nissan/Infiniti forum but thought I'd ask for thoughts here. TIA. :)

That's a very tough question to ask a forum. Like you said a Nissan one at that. Are you one to work on your own cars? It tends to be easier to work on nissan/ infiniti's, What about keeping the car long term. Maintenance is usually cheaper with the G. and so is parts. The MB will have quality parts (usually) as well, and with the G you may find a rattle that you have to take to the dealer to get resolved. When I was looking at other cars, I had ther MB, BMW and the G in my choices and went with the G.

Warranty is another thing to consider. Repairs are more expensive on the Merc, plus it's older.

Appreciate it. As it turned out, the G37 I wanted sold out from under me while I was deciding to get it, my fault -- so I ended up in the E350. Figure they're both fine cars.

The G37 was on that lot for months, and then right after I looked at it, along comes a buyer for sticker price!

The E350 is CPO (as was the G37) and is warrantied for everything except "trim items" and wear/tear until mid-2015, or another ~80,000 miles down the road.

I was told that the additional warranty coverage that comes with a CPO Infiniti is powertrain only. Was unaware of that.

I do not think that is correct on CPO. but congrats on the E350. Enjoy it! Post a pic up for us too!

Thanks! Gotta try and get some pics soon when I pick it up.

As far as the CPO thing, I thought that sounded odd myself. Had a second, so I found this off the company's website: https://owners.infinitiusa.com/iowners/ ... verage.pdf

It basically does sound like powertrain only. Per the PDF, Infiniti CPO covers core engine components, transmission/axle, other peripheral drivetrain parts, and airbag equipment, all with a $50 deductible. Naturally, all the usual wear/tear stuff is explicitly excluded along with trim, but I was surprised that things like audio system components, nav system, and in-car communications equipment are all listed as not covered as well. Huh.

In any case, still a little bummed I missed out on the G37, but got a good deal on a nice car in the end anyway.
