Hey guys quick question, if I posted in wrong forum please excuse my ignorance....

Anyone know what the law is regarding car dealers selling used "state" legal cars? Let say if I buy a non dot/epa state legal car with say a GA/FL/MO title and tries to reg. it in another state but gets shot down by my local dmv, can I return the car and get my money back since it was sold by a legal used car dealer? If they sold a non fed legal car would that make it an unlawful sale? I'm just wondering what the law is regarding such issues. Thanks

I'm sure the dealer has something in the contract that is in small print saying if the buyer takes possession of the car, there are no refunds or exchanges. Its a used car. Dealers protect there assets like there's no tomorrow. Once you sign on the dotted line. The car is yours. It's up to you to do your own homework. This probably wouldn't make it to court since you signed a legal document.

Actually its this 94 supra on ebay that I saw. Dont know how to post link but if you type in jdm supra on search you'll see it. Always thought that as an auto dealer you can't sell non federalized cars as street use. Wouldnt that be considered as selling an item knowing that its illegal in the first place? Asked the seller on ebay the question but did not get an answer, and probably never will. oh, trying to reg it in NV.

If you are going to purchase/own a vehicle that is non-conforming to NHTSA regulations for road use then that is some of the risk and troubles you have to be willing to accept and deal with for as long as you own it. Owning these grey market vehicles is no easy feat and requires the owner to be informed on various state regulations on how to register, title and insure these things.

Getting something like that off of a dealer is just what it is, they should tell you as much as they can about the car and the can's and cannot's, but if they don't it's not really on them since they are simply selling and that's it.
