when you install cams, there will always be some valves that are open. Im not sure what you mean by having the cams rotate for you?

i mean i can set the cams down and in order to get them lined up correctly i need to get those ****ing valves to open or what not for correct timing upon instalation.

that's true. i installed my cams by slipping the sprocket into the timing chain, and then loosely bolting on the first bearing cap. then loosely bolt on the furthest away one that you can (maybe #4). this way the bearing caps will push the valves open for you and the chain keeps the cam from rotating too much.

thanks although i don't know if thats all i need to know. i am currently just tearing out all vaccum **** from the intake manifold and removing the butterflies thta all seem to have sticking bolts. i am doing this timing **** to a high compression head swap without any marks on chain or gears or cams

to set the engine at TDC take out the #1 spark plug, then put yer thumb in it, get someone to crank the engine, then crank till ya get pressure up yer thumb and goes out.(you'll har a sound air comin out cause of compression).

set your cams with the lobes opposite sides(like in the sticky) and be done.

Ummmmmm, I think you might want to get that surface rust off of those lobes before you start the car. Be sure to oil them up REAL good before that first crank.

i wasn't even able to view the picture, **** what does it look like? **** that surface rust is staying. my high compression swap will finish when i get back from florida, that is if anyone is interested. i am attaching a pic of my intake manifold if someone can tell me if i have ****ed anything up yet, ****ing censorship sucks.

I dont think you should crank the engine wit your thumb in the plug hole unless your turening the engine over with a rachet.

i do it all the time, i just make sure i don't crank it a full rev, just enough to move the piston #1(which is just turnin the key fast), so the engine doesn't start.(i know the engine can run without 1 cylinder)
