Just did my first oil change to get out all the break in material out from the engine, but, I used 5w20 motor oil instead of the recommended 5w30. I thought all new cars took a 5w20 grade, I guess I was wrong. Should I dump this oil? Don't want the dealership to deny warranty if something happens. Car is running fine, actually feels smoother. I used Motomaster Formula 1 Synthetic oil which was on sale at Canadiantire. Would hate for a good oil go to waste. Will it be ok to keep it in for a short oci?

I dumped the factory fill at 1500km. I'm thinking if I keep this in for 3000km and do another oil change with the right grade (5w30) it should be ok. By the way I used a motomaster oil filter as well, i think they are made by Fram. I noticed the car sounds much quieter after the change, could it be due to the oil being synthetic? I can hardly tell if it's on, acceleration noise is also much smoother. Great oil for the price, on sale this week for 18 bucks for 5 liters.

One question for all 2013 Rogue owners. I noticed there was no hood insulation in mine when I did the oil change. Is this normal for this model? Mostly every car I've owned has some form of hood insulation.

Thanks for the info. I guess it's not a big loss but might of been a good sound insulator, no biggie I guess.

sound doesnt come in that way. it would have to come up through that blanket, through the metal hood, into the windshield...
sound comes through the firewall = and nothing more.

Nothing more? What about the wheel wells? :gotme Isn't there a post about spraying Flex Seal or similar product to reduce road noise from there? And there's this thread on road/wind noise road-wind-noise-solution-t493362.html?hilit=BLANKET

@OP, my 2012 doesn't have the engine hood blanket, and I don't thing the 2011 I previously owned had one either. I think they were discontinued about the same time paddle shifters were eliminated. You may find this thread interesting need-help-burnt-hole-under-hood-t537090 ... it=BLANKET

we are talking about the hood/engine compartment. not the wheel wells lol :tisk: . the fire retarder/blanket does nothing for the wheel wells- nor for noise reduction. the engine noise comes in through the holes in the firewall and the thin firewall itself.

regarding thew the wheel wells: that is a whole other topic. the noise you hear from the wheel wells is water droplets splashing against the wheel well area that are brought up by the tire tread - and the air that is moved through there - and the tire noise from the tread humming alone the road surface.

Here's the pictures of the washers I got, these are 100% oem but less than half the price, only 53 cents each.

guys this thread is closed, as its been answered.

the rest of the chatter has been moved to its own thread: trunk-t583209.html
stay on topic, or start your own thread (if you can not find an already opened thread). i just dont have time recently to be tinkering around and dividing a thread into 2, 3 or more.
