Hello all, just joining the forum after spending hours reading up on this car and then going out to buy one. I purchased Journey with Premium 82k miles from a used car dealer $15,800, test drove perfectly. Went back and picked it up a few days later and bam, when initially accelerating, the car stutters and dies on feathering of the throttle. So I have it at the Nissan dealer suspecting faulty MAF or fuel filter... $120 to diagnose. They call me a few hours later and tell me its not the MAF or fuel filter and they still don't know what the problem is but that it will cost $240 now to diagnose. The car is still in pieces, I'm in a crappy sentra rental. The dealer swears the car was perfect when he sold it. Can anyone shed some light on the reason for the stalling? MUCH APPRECIATED!

I hope this experience is just a hiccup and that I can start enjoying this car!

Oh, BTW I used to own a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 and 2007 Mazdaspeed 3!

It could be from many many things. Let the dealer figure it out. I think it is a good idea to buy warranty when you buy a used car. Also would look into what the dealer usually offers. Like some of the used car dealers giving you 30 days return or 120 days warranty. Did you look into this?

Welcome to Nico BTW.

Is it coupe or sedan?

It's a sedan. I'm in Socal, don't know about any warranty but the dealer expressed that it was sold as is. Thanks for the welcome.

Came back from the dealer, car is still in the shop. Still have not figured out the problem but suspecting exhaust cam valve? Will find out tomorrow I suppose, I'm getting a little nervous...

That comment alone would have made me run away from that car as fast as I could.

It may just be a minor problem, however. Keep us posted, and good luck!

Used cars off warrenty are ALL sold AS IS and most come with a written statement to that fact.

Has anyone "cleaned" the throttle bodies? If you cleaned the throttle bodies you could come up with this error.

Do you have any codes a poppin?

Get your Infiniti into an Infiniti shop Nissan is great for small things but you need someone who has seen your car a few times and maybe even your issue.

I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago after my throttle bodies and ECU was replaced on my G at 69k miles under warrenty. Infiniti wanted to reflash the ECU but by the time I could get it over to them I had put enough miles on it the ECU had learned the throttle position completely.

30 days or 1K. warr. That's what I got here in SoCal. From what I hear that's pretty basic for a used car as is.

It's the same motor as in the '07-08 350z so I don't see why a Nissan shop could not figure out the issue. Granted, when dropping it off at Nissan you don't get an Infiniti loaner and you usually have to pay for the rental.

I just need a little piece of mind when sinking my hard earned dollars into a car. AS IS just doesn't cut it for me. The only two scarier words on a window sticker might be SALVAGE TITLE.

Anyway, I thought there would be at least a 30 day warranty like mentioned above. Otherwise, I don't see the point in buying a used car from a dealer. Might as well just get a private party car for less money if you're not getting a warranty. That may even be better in some cases if you can find a private seller that's an original owner with good service records and a proven history of caring for and maintaining the car.

TRUE DAT! Nice motor, hopefully that isnt the problem. From the sounds of it, car spuddering, rough acc, sounds like maybe a fuel pump, infection problem. WISH U THE BEST OF LUCK..! "be careful, as is = problem"

Depends on what the owner did for a living. I'm a salesman and I have a 07 G35 sedan with 72k miles on it. Maybe this sedan's previous owner had a larger territory?

So I'm back in the Mazdaspeed 3. The dealer had me drop the car off at an Infiniti dealer for a second opinion after hearing from the nissan dealer that the problem was the timing chain- cost $4,500 to fix. The inifiniti dealer came back with the same diagnosis and a cost of $5,000. So the dealer gave me the option of reversing the transaction minus $750 for repairs he made on my trade- in. So thus ends my brief experience with the g35. Good luck to you all, thanks for the feedback. Hope I am back here with a new g35 soon.

I had a similar problem about 10 years ago with my 88 Mazda 929.I brought it to an independent shop for a timing belt and new tensioners at 196k milesThey didn't replace all the timing belt tensioners that they charged me for an used an aftermarket belt that kept jumping time. Finally they refused to fix it and I had to take it to the Mazda dealer to get it correctly repaired.Fortunately I had paid the independent shop with a credit card and was able to have a charge back issued against them for their shoddy workmanship.

Lesson learned, I will never buy a used vehicle and all work on my G is done at the Infiniti dealer.

Nothing wrong with buying used as long as you do your homework and be smart about it.

WOW you can pick up a junk yard motor with a few 1000 mile on it for around $2 grand!

I bet I could do the timing chain myself is that normal for it to fail at such low mileage?
