well i don't know if it belongs here or not mods feel free to move it anywhere u want but

here is my question does it get to the point were there is way too much horsepower? i ask this question because my friend has a civic and pushing atlest 350whp and plus and he does not get traction till about the top of third and i wanna turbocharged my 40sx but not over do it i want to use the power instead of just spinning tires.

i know it all depends on the tires and the suspension but remember i want this to be a strictly street car which means no slicks, street legal stuff

p.s i know this might sound naive but i believe a car shouldn't be limited to a track i want to be able to drive it too strip and back also room around the street putting cars in there places

i believe it depends on the driver, amongst many other factors. so the limit depends per person and car.

Well your civic is obviously fwd, so accelerating puts the weight of the car off of the drive wheels, so you are going to spin tires. Also, unless you drive like a maniac, I really can't see anyone spinning through third gear. You should rethink how you drive/race and your tire compound then see how much you spin.

I don't have personal experience, but if you get a turbo big enough to flow 350-400 whp then it's not going to spool until say 4k rpm, meaning the turbo isn't going to matter what happens off the line. Anything under 500 hp i think you will be fine as long as you can handle it, and then think about the tires.

This is all wrong...

The T3/TO4E in .48 AR is good for 400whp and hits 20psi by 3k.

The good thing about turbo's is that you can run low boost while daily driving and turn it up when ever you want to go faster, be it the track or not. So you can tailor your power level to the amount of traction you have.

430 rwhp/tq in my S13 was way too much power to be putting down on the street. True I didn't have super expensive tires or suspension but still, that turbo (T3/TO4E) spooled pretty damn quick and without some delicate throttle control it was easy to lose the rear end out from underneath me. Even spooling at highway speed. 400+ hp/tq in a car this small is violently fast.

Let me also say that it was freaking awesome. Even burning the tires up the car was outrageously quick. Faster than anyone should be traveling on regular streets.

My buddy has 510 whp on his 240. He has 12" wide rims in the back and has the suspension done right. It has carbon doors, hood, trunck. Gutted. Super light. He just tries to drive like a grama as much as he can and he does alright. But o yea he can spin those wheels with a sneeze. That car is sick.... to bad he just sold it. It was a finished project and he just bought a new 240. Crazy b@stard.

well if you stomp on it and power shift u can burn tires pretty quick"and clutch" well since i am new to RWD world i just wanted to know because a buddy of mine has 300zx pushing 12psi "stock everything" raced the dude with civic and was beating him till the civic got traction.

so thx for the advice and going to invest in these boost controller

I effin love NICO... I was just thinking of this same question myself! After seeing Duron's dyno sheets, I've dreamed of having a ~450hp/tq 240. But the fastest car I've ever driven was a BMW 135i with 300hp/300tq, so handling a car with real power will be a new thing to me.

However (and this will sound retarded, I know) after driving the C6 Z06 in Gran Turismo Prolouge, I came to wonder how much torque is too much? I mean, that effin car requires feather lite throttle control or else the rear wheels will spin you right on up to God's waiting arms! I drive like a maniac, so maybe all the torque that KA-T's are famous for isn't really for me...

But no! The glorious part of turbo tuning is that you can just turn the boost down until you've got the balls (which I don't yet ) to handle the output! Yay KA POWA!
