I noticed that our neighbors to the north in Canada are able to purchase a hood/bug deflector as a accessory from Nissan, but it is not available in the States. I went and ordered this one and received a deflector for a Nissan XTERRA!!

http://www.automotiveconcepts....l?c=5

Automotive Concepts also offers these on Ebay with the same product number which is for a XTERRA and not a Versa so beware!

Does anyone know of a reliable source for this item in the US???

My parts guy at Beaverton Nissan was able to get me the same hood deflector that is offered for the Versa to the folks in Canada by Nissan. It is manufactured by Focus Auto Design in Canada and cost me $79.95.

I won't be able to install the deflector for a while. I bought the Versa for my wife and she is currently working in a remote part of Oregon 400 miles away. Perhaps in a month or so she will be back in town and I can install it then. I will update with pics at that time.

Winter Wipers with boots/ license plate frame?

Can you expound on why you got the deflector? Is it mostly to avoid stone chips on the front of the hood or does it really deflect rain/ bugs off the windshield?

You inked out the dealership name on your license plate cover?

No on the mod guesses so far.

That is true, but not what I am referring to. The middle front on shot shows the mod the best of the three, but I may need a close up.

I got the deflector primarily for rock chip protection. I will need to drive another highway trip to see about the bug deflection, but my guess is that there will be little change.

When I purchased my '08 SL hatch last Aug, the dealer's parts dept told me that they quit selling (a service bulletin is the term they used) due to the fact a good # of the hood deflectors blew off @ speed. So I didn't purchase @ that time .

Fields, Oregon. 110 miles south of Burns and about 20 miles north of the Nevada Border.

It is still offered in Canada as a factory authorize accessory as can be seen here: http://www.nissan.ca/vehicles/....html

It is very easy to do for the grill. I use the aluminum gutter mesh from Home Depot. This is the rigid 3 foot sections that are about 4+" wide. I have used it on other vehicles with good results.

Just pull your grill by pulling the plastic buttons on top and then pop the tabs on the bottom of the grill to pull the grill forward and remove.

Place a section of the mesh on the back on one side and use black zip ties in four places to loosely hold in place. Ziptie points shown here:

Next, with wire cutters trim to the desired size keeping in mind the view from the front. Once you have it cut to size, cinch up the zip ties and trim the tag end. Repeat for the other half of the grill and reinstall.

I like the subtle look of the mesh, but I primarily do it to protect the radiator from the larger grill openings that allow larger rocks and debris to bash the radiator and AC condensor.

Very Nice, I might do that to the bottom portion of the bumper, until my new one comes in.

You would just need a wider piece of mesh, around 6 inches, to fully cover the bottom bumper grill. I will be doing this soon once I receive the mesh.

I just got me a 2008 Versa SL Sport. I desperately want one of those hood deflectors!! (I can't stand bras!) Would you happen to have a parts number to help out my parts man? Cool mesh job on the grill--I may have to try that....

This is all the info that I have on the deflector. You could try calling Bruce in Parts at Beaverton Nissan at 503-643-8676 to find out how he was able to get one for me.

I just spoke with Bruce. He said he could get them via special order, and it took about two weeks. He ordered one for me.

The stone chips are mounting up in only 2 1/2 months.

I thought I would comment on the bug deflector as I am on my 2nd one. The 1st one broke loose at the front of the car. the plastic snaps that hold it in place are not very strong. The same thing happened to the replacement and I am in the midst of going back to the dealer for yet another one.I think the basic design could be flawed as I bought an aftermarket bug deflector for both my old nissan altima and a ford escape. In both of these cases the bug deflector curves around the front of the hood sort of like a c shape. While the deflector for the versa just lays on top of the hood and I can see wind getting underneath and eventually loosening the plastic connectors.

Another comment on the wire mesh, excellent idea. I wish I had seen this a few weeks ago, I had a stone hit my condensor and its $875 to get it fixed as the pipe that is broke is to thin to repair (I checked a rad place first). Seems that welding cant be done on the pipe.

Sorry to hear about your deflectors failing. I will keep a close watch on ours and pull it if there is a sign of the clips weakening. Thanks for the tip.

I finally got around to doing the mesh on the bumper. It is easiest to do from the top with the grill removed. I was going to do it from the bottom of the bumper, but there is to much stuff to remove to get good access. Let me know what you think!

I never heard back from Bruce at Beaverton Nissan, and no response to my email follow up either. I just called and left another message.

I guess it won't be happening.

UPDATE:I spoke with Bruce at Beaverton Nissan who just called me back...he explained that this particular part comes directly from Nissan's vendor, NOT from Nissan Canada itself, and that it often takes several weeks to get them in his inventory at the dealership. He said it should be delivered to him and then shipped to me within another week or so.

He also said if anyone else needs this or other parts, to contact the dealership at 800-452-3018 and they'll try to help in any way they can.

Thanks Bruce and Beaverton Nissan!

UPDATE II:

Bruce from Beaverton Nissan called to say they had the deflector in hand and were shipping it to me. $79.95 plus actual shipping.

Thanks to Bruce for the excellent follow up and looking forward to getting the part.
