Alright, I just finished installing the new thermostat for my car. I jacked the car up, and started poring the coolant into the radiator and as soon as the coolant came out of the bleeder hole, I stopped.

After wards, I turned the car on, and started putting more coolant into the radiator, as soon as the coolant started seeping out of the bleeder hole, I started screwing in the bleeder screw...

Now here's the problem, while attempting to screw in the bleeder screw, the top of the bleeder bolt snapped! Now the bottom half of the bleeder bolt remains in the block. Any advice on how to rectify this problem?

Here's a picture of it. . . Urgh. . .

P.S. I barely even tightened it that much, and no, I wasn't cross threading it or anything.

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

a set of easyouts, a hardware store will have them.

you can replace the bolt found at lowes or home depot. it's m6-1.0 x 10mm.

Alright thanks a lot. I have a question though, what kind of easy out set do I need to use? The spiral easy out, the square easy out, etc? Thanks in advance.

Yah, I would do that, but mine has a very minimal leak occurring. So i'm not too sure if I should leave it.

Alright, so I just went to test drive my car, and after about 3 minutes, the needle reaches the middle of the temp gauge. It then keeps going and starts to overheat. When I got back home, I popped the hood open, and a lot of smoke was coming out of the f***ing bleeder hole.

ARGH!! I need to get this thing fixed ASAP.

did you have the heat on while running the engine and adding the coolant??? thats the only way to make sure there is no air in the cooling system.

Yes, I had the heat and fan set on max. I'm quite sure it's just the stupid a** bleeder bolt. If I can remove it, and put a new bolt in and then refill the coolant, I'm sure it will fix the problem.

What do you guys think?

yeah replace the bolt and it should be good to go cause if coolant is still coming out then that means air is getting in. i personally preffer not to use the bleeder screws and just raise the front of the car so the radiator neck is the highest point in the cooling system and burp out the air.

Center punch that thing dead center and use a small reverse drill bit and start drilling it out with the drill in reverse. If it doesn't budge after drilling it for a while and there is a reasonably deep hole in the broken part, then try to get it out with an easy out.A lot of times, it will just thread itself out while drilling it in reverse.

Or otherwise known as a left handed drill bit.

Same thing happened to me. I decided to leave it, car started overheating and it was leaking from that hole. Smother a gratuitous amount of gray rtv sealant over the hole and it won't leak any more. Now you just have to park on an incline in order to bleed your coolant system.

Wait, can you go into more detail? Once the car is on an incline/jacked up, I have to start the car, and leave the radiator cap off, and let it burp the air bubbles out? How does it work exactly, help would be greatly appreciated.

same thing happened to me, but it was brokem so that there was sort of a raised portion on the screw part. so i used a flathead and while pushing down, slowly unscrewed the leftover of the bolt out. put new one in and its great.

Well to be honest I've never ever had a problem with bleeding my coolant system. I just fill it slowly and leave about a 1/4" of air between the fluid level and the top of the radiator. Start the car, let it run for a few minutes, put the cap on and drive around. You don't have to drive with the cap off, just start the car on an incline with the cap off.
