I've got a 1990 240SX with a redtop S13 swap. After installing a new exhaust manifold I've been having boost issues. Installed a new HKS actuator and a new Hallman Pro boost controller. After that I all of a sudden got a metallic rattle/buzz. It's near the rear of the engine, on the exhaust side. All bolts are tight so it shouldnt be an exhaust leak. I have no clue what it could be. Performance hasnt been affected so thats why I suspect nothing with the internals. I have just ran out of options and am ready to fix this minor issue and sell the car. I'm tired of the problems I've had with this car

Any particular reason you put an electronic boost controller with an adjustable wastegate actuator? The problem could be rooted in that. I would suggest putting your old actuator back on and seeing if that fixes your issue.

The Hallman is a manual boost controller. This only started happening a few days after. The noise only seems to happen when revs drop. I dont know if its an exhaust leak somewhere or what. I cant find any places that look like the exhaust is leaking. I just dont want it to be a serious mechanical issue and have me be unable to drive to work as its my daily driver.

Check to make sure the bolts that hold the 2 housings (intake and exhaust, its the bolts and washers that keep the compressor side of the turbo fixed to the exhaust housing) on your turbo are not loose. I had this happen to me and it turned out to be those bolts where loose.

You talking about the turbine inlet? I had them tight but I can check them again. I doubt it though, since the noise seems to be more down either in the engine block(hope not) or closer to the turbo itself. I'll double check tomorrow. Any more ideas? everything seems to be fine performance wise but I've stay out of boost for the time being, just to be safe.

I'll check. The only thing I havent tightened, or loosened, were the downpipe into the testpipes bolts. But the sound doesnt seem to be coming from there. I've got new bolts and gaskets for the turbo outlet and the downpipe. I gotta check tomorrow though. Hopefully it is something minor and not the turbine end of the turbo or the wastegate itself. Any other suggestions if thats not it?

Turns out it was the gasket between the turbo outlet and the downpipe.
