I searched and read a lot of info about the VLSD swap but I think some of the terms are getting confused which is confusing me. So I looked at my FSM for the correct term. On the side of the differental housing are these things that stick out called SIDE FLANGES, not output shafts according to the book, the bolt to the DRIVE SHAFTS(6 or 5 bolts). The VLSD that I bought came with no side flanges. Can I use my open diff side flanges on my vlsd or do I need vlsd side flanges? If no, can I use the open side flange anyways and replace them later on?
I want to make sure the terms and parts are right.

let's just stick to output flange since everyone is familar with this term.
from my understanding, you can swap the output flange from your open differential to the vlsd but most people get the 5 bolt start shaped ones because it's beefier
