I was driving on the freeway yesterday, and my driver side windshield wiper simply broke off, with the wiper arm part getting caught between the side mirror and my door.

I checked it out after I stopped, and it turns out that the wiper had completely rusted, and broke off. It was not attached to anything; only held down by the plastic part between the hood and the windshield.

I need to clarify that I cannot simply replace the wiper arm; the part that the wiper arm was attached to is still intact TO the wiper arm, but not to the car itself.

If I had to get it fixed by tomorrow night, what should I do? Take it to a shop?

Edit: I read that the part where the wiper arm is mounted on to is called the COWL plate. That's the part that rusted off of the car.

I'm very familiar with that area because I had to remove the whole thing when I installed Nagisa shakitto plates, but I'm having hard time visualizing your problem. Cowl plate is plastic. Mounting point on the motor broke off or something? Pics would definitely help. I have extra cowl plates, wiper arm and stuff. So, post some pics...

Pics would be a definite must. I've had the entire armature/pivot assemblies apart and I'm still having issues with visualizing what you're talking about

I don't have a camera..

but I looked at it again, and the metal part that the cowl plate was bolted onto rusted off.

I attatched the ball to the socket that moved the arm, so it DOES work. But it's only a matter of time until the ball comes back out of the socket, because the metal on the cowl plate, which is supposed to hold down the wiper arm etc. is free and loose.
