Ok heres the deal. My dad and i were trying to change the lower ball joint on his 92 Nissan Maxima, and while i was trying to get the ball joint off the transaxle poped out and started leaking transmission fluid. We let it drain till it stoped and continued working. When the time came to fill up the trany fluid agian it still leaked. I looked at the axle and could tell that it was not sitting flush with the trany. I tried and tried to get it to sit flush with the trany but to no avail. So my dad and i decided to sit the car down and see if the axle will slide in further and not leak. Did that and it still leaked. So anybody know how to get it to stop leaking or how to get the axle flush with the trany.

you need to hit it to pop it in over the retainer clip. this is best done with the axle detatched from the steering knuckle. you hold and hit the outer end of the axle while pushing it into the trans. so you dont damage the threads put the nut on and run it down so its flush with the end of the threads. then use a heavy dead blow hammer to hit it.

You may need to remove the axle if it won't go in. Sometimes the clip slips out of the groove and won't allow the axle to go in. The clip can damage the splines and you may have to dress them up with a file. Also don't drive it with the axle not seated you can break the end off after the clip and the axle become worthless.
