I got a check engine light used the scaner from AAP and found out that the fault was with MAF. I have 188000 miles on that car so decided to replace it with remanufactured one. I installed the new one. Now it idles fine, car seems quite while idling, but the moment i put it in gear it huffs and puffs and car dies. Accelerating the car in idle does not go past 2500 rpm. starts to sputter, come back to life and sputter again. After many such tries, when i put in drive, the engine did not die and was able to drive. But stopped at the next light when I accelerated after full stop.

The question i have is, Did i get a bad part or does my car needs to adjust to the new MAF.

planning to go to AAP in the noon and swap the part for a different one and see if that makes a difference, else going back to the old one, which was a little rough but did not have any stopping problems.

With RPM limited, looks like car is in 'limp' mode (plugs and injectors firing at the same time). You may have received a defective MAF sensor.

Thanks, I replaced it, seemed to work fine on the way home, will have to watch for a week to see if its stable. The rpm is still around 550.

hey out there.

just wanted to let everyone know that a MAF sensor creates a lot of miss information with other problems regarding power, idle, stalling, etc. Some claim that you cant clean a mass air on a maxima because it wont work. got to replace. False. If you clean with Mass air flow Cleaner. CRC it will work. ELECTRICAL, CARB CLEANER, STARTING FLUID, WILL HARM OR DAMAGE. YOU MUST shoot it in the AIR IN AND OUT PORTS. TINY CHAMBERS ON THE SENSOR. The mass air flow is like the gateway to your car running properly. Most issues regarding fuel, knocking, hesitation, stalling, rough running, irratic idle, check engine light on( P171 CODE) WILL BE THAT OF THE mass air flow sensor. Extremely easy to clean and or replace. YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET UR ECM REPROGRAMMED. Hope this helps all out there looking to drop $ 145+++ on the sensor or more if you have some dealer or shop replace. REMEMBER A CAN OF MASS AIR FLOW CLEANER FOR 6 BUCKS IS A CHEAP WAY TO MORE THAN LIKELY FIXING YOUR ISSUES.
