Hello Members,

I am looking at a 2006 g35 6mt with the revup motor that is notorious for burning oil. I have a feeling this poor car is toast and will not be a worthwhile investment. The car was driven by a traveling salesperson who drove 25,000 miles a year on highway and did oilchanges at 7,500 mile interval when the motor can burn up .5qt to 1.0qt. Normally an owner should check fluid level regularly and top off as necessary. The oil was probably being burnt over time and the car is showing sign of it.

I have uploaded video of the engine that sounds like the lifters, head, cams, shims or something is messed up. The car upon inspection when i got there was low on oil. Nothing on the dipstick and i added .5qt and it barely registered LOW. The dealer claimed it was just low on oil so i called him out on it and said i am going RIGHT NOW for an oil change. I know don't hate me but i had Walmart do the oil change since no on is open at 6:30pm on Saturday.

Guess what new 5 qts of Mobil 1 Extended performance 5w30 and still same same chatter. I am able to back out of the deal totally and feel like i know my answer is just to walk away.

The car is not in good shape at all and i pulled all service history at infiniti. The maintenance is good like 90k they did transmission flush, coolant, and differential. Brakes like 20k miles ago and a transmission flush at like 40k. The transmission is solid but engine is CRAP.

So experts listen to the clip and please tell me what you think is the issue with the engine. I am sure due to revup and the owner driving 25k miles per year and doing oilchanged at 7,500 miles killed the engine and soon needs replacement.

I have attached the video and the service history from infiniti.

thanks

I would walk away. There's not much worse than buying someone else's headache. Good luck.

Just run unless you're getting the car for such a low price that you can put a new engine in it and it's still a smoking good deal. And only then if you're up for a project and have the tools and time to do it, or a very trusted technician to do the work for you.

Thank you for your input and I really appreciate it. I will be getting my refund for the vehicle tomorrow from the dealer as promised and will be looking at other vehicles. I went today to a dealership to look at a vehicle that was in excellent condition from the exterior/interior/underbody. I have taken extensive pictures and plan to go back tomorrow for a test drive and negotiations. I am in no hurry to purchase a vehicle and will take my sweet time finding the right one at the right price with good maintenance history.

thanks

I have taken extensive pictures and video of a vehicle that i saw today but unfortunately the dealer was closed so no TEST DRIVE. Please inspect all that you see and tell me what looks out of place. Overall the car is in very good condition pending a test drive. I ensured the car had the CD009 transmission AKA MONEY SHOT (last revision, beefed up syncros).

The bushing on the compression rod looks split or needs attention. The front bumper has some rock chips along with the hood. The rear bumper has couple scratches and one deep scratch. Tires in the rear are 40% and the front is 60%. I see new rotors and pads had plenty of life on them so brakes were good.

I see the red shocks for the sport suspension which is stock on 6mt. Please give me all your input on what you think and hopefully this pictures will come useful to other members needing work on there car. Please check the rust in the rear differential and axles along with exhaust...any worries???

Looks very nice! The clear front corner markers are aftermarket. Red shocks look different that what's under our G, but I think that's part of the sport package. The rear bumper and parts under the tail lights look slightly darker to me - possible paint work?

I would definitely have a look at the factory service records before purchasing any Infiniti.
