It is with a heavy heart that I come to my computer tonite to write this thread. My roommate got his new 350Z enthusiast model, black/black leather, NAV, 6 speed over the weekend. He and one of my other roommates flew down to Texas to get it and drive it back to Indiana. It has been almost 3 days since he has had it and he flipped it this evening out on a country road and into a ditch. I was really excited about him being a part of NICO, doing a sweet stereo in it, and helping him mod it, but before I could write up a thread on the new project... it was dumped in a ditch. He is just fine as he had on his seatbelt, but the car is not so well off. The roof was smushed in and the front glass was broken. The axles were broke and the wheels were bent. We'll see what happens. What is really sad is the fact that he learned how to drive a stick last week on a hyundai tiburon and has never had a car before. But that is what you get when you jump into the ring with Ali because you think you can box. So sad.:(

My condolences...:( from our club.

But also: Big picture time

1)No one got hurt.2)While this is very sad, he has full insurance I am sure and since its only 3 days old, they will have to give him full replacement cost for a new one. Better crahs it now than in 6 months when the substitute car might have been a trim less, (maybe base Z)

Fred...:)

Sad/Bad situation, but as Fred said, no one was hurt and he shouldn't come out on the short end of the insurance stick. Now, lets just make sure he "learns" something from this.

That's really too bad. I can't even imagine how terrible your buddy must feel after wrecking a brand new car like that. It kind of reminds me of the story when Mike Tyson's body guard flipped his twin turbo Diablo on a freeway inter-change. Talk about an expensive F-Up.

Yeah guys... so true. I wonder if it would be better totaled out or repaired. New one or fixed. I'll see if I can get some pics.

Wow a 350z as your first car. That seems like quite a step. I mean wheres the classic first car such as the ford tempo or the busted cavalier? :D Glad he's ok.

I assume he has been driving for a good amount of time just never owned his own car.

There's a reason why most people start out with a Cavalier, Escort, Saturn, etc. IMO, a 350Z is *way* too much car for a new driver.

Maybe he can take the insurance money and get something a bit more manageable until he has some experience under his belt. Glad to hear everyone's OK.

Its painful seeing a high mileage beauty go away...

Its even worse seeing a car whose only used 3 of the mileage digits!!! It was so young (sniff sniff), didnt even get to its first oil change!!!

Dang, that sucks... and that pic hurts deep. I have to agree, I think a Sentra makes a great first car (coming from experience). Fast and fun, but not fast enough to get me into too bad of a situation.

younger friend of mine (17) owned a nice 02 wrx.i was following him one night back home from a meet in Portland. Wanted to showboat it so he bombed it down a twisty little hill road. Barely keeping up, i witnessed him lose control out of a 40 mph turn, smack into a tree at maybe 40, and ricochet off and roll down a 20 foot cliff. scariest **** ive ever seen, gets your adrenaline going...ebraked my little honda around with cell phone in hand dialing 911 with debris from the tree he hit raining down, and went over to check out the carnage.steam everywhere, i can see him, and his passeneger scrambling up the cliff with the totolled scubie on its back. wphew, good old australian engineering. no one was hurt (friend lost his glasses though.)took a while convincing the cop he wasnt under the influence.hate these stories, good cars getting the **** kicked out of them.

This just in... only $8000 to repair the entire vehicle. Quite amazing... but none of the airbags went off... and there is no structural damage to the car. I will post pictures within the hour.

So far so good. But somewhere out there was a salvage guy rubbing his hands together waiting for a wrecked 350z to hit the auction.

The suspension was bent on the left side, you can see it clearly. That was the ONLY underbody damage. That is why the rear wheel appears to have positive camber. hehe :)
