ups and downs of open exhasut on sr

there ne draw backs on running open exhaust on the sr??? i took mine off last nite for a druft event and holy ****...car felt lik it gained TONS of power (given mt exhaust is 2.25 inch straight back no cat and no resonator)

there any downsides to running open from the turbo elbow???

Besides the black soot left under the car, I dont think it can cause any harm unless it burns something due to flames.

It'll introduce oxygen really close to the turbo, which can increase the outlet temperatures. This has been known to cause turbine damage over the long haul. I would run at least a downpipe.

^^^^^ very true. my friend nearly passed out driving back from an event with a leaking downpipe. imagine how bad an open exhaust could be. how about getting a costum pipe made to dump the exhaust out behind one of the front wheels?

I ran straight downpipe once, it didnt seem much faster. But it made hella noise. You can hear the turbo a lot more too. But it's just toooo loud.

Same here...leaking downpipe gasket on my old WRX. Damn near passed out too. :eek:

my car sounded like a school bus with a giant turbo motor, not tight, hella loud with downpipe only

omg! I had to drive like that for like 3 weeks. man did that suck! loud as crap and fuel in your face all the time. especially if you don't have ac! just try it out for a week. it was a nightmare. haha.

doesnt bother me too much...gave the car HUGE umph over my dinky lil 2.25 inch straight pipe

if you get a fire, you Will cry, my friends CAS looked like mush after his caught on fire. also, the exhaust will retain some heat as to not cause warping due to temp fluxuation.
