Tax refund season is coming and I want to use part of the funds for some car improvements. I have a stock 2009 M35x and I'm thinking of getting the uprev tune done.

I'm looking at two things to come out of the tune - one a better throttle response mode, two- a more fuel efficient mode. What do you guys think? Will a stock car with just the uprev tune give me all of this or should I also go for other performance parts? The trouble is, I may not have the $ for a lot of stuff now. Anybody has experience with the m35x with only uprev tune?

My what I remember (I'm also basically stock except for Z tube and plenum spacer and got upreved)...it will still be beneficial to your motor to get tuned.

So If I get the car Uprev tuned alone this year, I would still see noticeable benefits, even without any performance parts? I would definitely go back and do the parts next year though!

Hi there, I am no expert but you should get the parts before the tune..

Sorry,to be more helpful you can get uprevd stock and still get some nice results , more economically than performance wise. But getting uprevd now and getting parts later will beat the purpose of tuning . As the parts are most efficient when tuned so you would have to get retuned which means paying twice! Hope that makes sense

having maps is nice! got base tune uploaded yesterday and already like it although its still kinda raw and need more work. Econ map is nice for highway cruising my highway mpg went way up from 19-20 to 27!!! City driving still sucks nothing i can do about it.
Have plenum spacer and catback installed with ztube.
I would invest in 5/16 spacer (230$) its really good! Was gona sell the M35x cause it wasnt fun driving after G35 but once i added spacer i changed my mind and began dumping more money into M :)

In that case, what parts should I start with if I have a limited budget - like let's say a 1000$?

Well I personally think the car should breathe and exhale so some plenum spacer , z tube or cai and exhaust its all up to your budget which route you go on bolt ons.. Do some search on this forum theres plenty of info here

Just a heads up, I remember reading on this forum where someone had their car dyno tuned and actually lost power with a cold intake and uprev.
The numbers looked better with a stock intake setup.

Thanks guys.. From your recommendations, I think I should get a spacer at the least (and exhaust mods), before I get into any uprev tune.

In 2009 Infiniti put the VQ35HR motor in the M35 (it has twin intakes) and there is no plenum spacer for this motor. That's only for the VQ35DE, which came in the M35 through 2008.

Uprev tuning will benefit you no matter what you have done since its just optimizing how your engine runs in its current state. Valet map, anti-theft settings, as well as smoother throttle response and more power are just some of the benefits.

Also the big cash outlay for uprev is the initial hit when you purchase the license, you can always update it later on for a lot less (or free if you are doing etuning)

It all depends on how soon you are planning on doing the exhaust mods, but if its going to be a while it would be beneficial to tune now. Lots of guys in the G35/350z scene get tuned bone stock/ with minimal mods and they all love it.

That's a good point. I failed to realize that we were talking about a 2009 M35.
A good tune on that will put the hp (but not tq) number close to the M45.
