I'm considering getting Osiris standard and having them send me tunes and doing it myself. How much do you guys think I'll be able to pick up on my 100% stock 07 M35x?

hugedude33 wrote:how is the gas mileage after the tune. most of the time I keep my car in the stock tune. I only put it in the UpRev tune when racing someone or when I'm on the expressway. in the city I keep it stock cause the MPG is HORRIBLE in the UpRev tune. whats your take on that. I only gained 11hp and 10tq cause my car is still all stock. you gained 30 so I know its eating up more gas
I noticed an increase in MPG's and also one thing i tried in the city was to shift manually to the next gear ASAP and i actually maintained a good amount of MPG's. You can shift a lot sooner in Manual mode vs. Auto and i think that helps especially in traffic, it will stay in 3rd at low speeds instead of constantly down shifting to 1st and up to 3rd all the time like in D. The other day i reset my fuel economy and cruised at 60 mph for about 30 minutes and it went all the way up to 26 MPG's. Most of the time though upon fill up i calculate how many miles I've driven vs how many gallons i put in and it usually turns out to 18-20 MPG's and thats with me giving it some gas, haulin a** and cruising. I havent taken a long trip in a while and just went 60 mph the whole way to see the best MPGs. Also i never take it out of my tuned mode :badger

It's hard to estimate since i dont think anyone has done the E tune method yet. Either way let us know when u get it done and the outcome.

hold down coast/set then press cancel X times for which ever tune you want, release coast/set. I think hugedude somehow managed to get an indicator to let you know when you switched tunes but for most M owners there is no sign of letting you know that you changed maps. Funny story, one day i showed my friend how i can put it in valet mode and it wont let me pass 3200 RPM's along with going over 33 mph, well i was in line to get in a car show and changed tunes, verified by revving my engine and it didn't go over 3200 RPMS. So it took me a minute to remember how to change maps in the first place but for the life of me i couldnt remember how to put it back. For about 20 min. i was revving my car while waiting in line and scooting fwd, trying to figure out how to get it back to my tuned mode. Me and my friend were laughing cuz it would have sucked to have to drive home 3 hr's going 33 MPH and people would have been like WTF passing by.

I find that hard to believe Mexillis. How you gain all that power and get better gas mileage. What.... you have a hybrid M that we dont know about...lol. It just doesn't make sense but if you do, hats off to you. Maybe I need to get my car re-tuned. No lie, I put my car in the tuned mode maybe 20% of the time. Thats how bad the gas mileage is. I dont mind though, when I want that extra punch its only takes a press of a button. On the open road the MPG is about the same. the tuned mode allow the gears to rev up to a higher RMP roughly around 6600rpms before shifting up. that takes more gas. thats why the 7 speed trans have better MPG. Bottom line more HP and TQ = more gas

Well to answer your question, with a better AFR (air to fuel ratio) and increased timing along with a good tuner making adjustments, my car is now running more efficient. My exhaust is also helping in this gain by letting all the exhaust out a lot quicker and easier than before which makes the engine run with less restriction. Maybe your tuner made your car a little too rich and though it will have a high amount of fuel supply to your engine it will also increase fuel consumption. Have you seen any black smoke when you put the petal to the metal?

maybe you're right. the tuner didnt tuned the car but he didnt get too involved cause I was gonna to a exhaust put on 2 months later so he didn't want to waste dyno time tuning it knowing it was gonna get re-tuned a couple months later. I got laid off not too long after gettin it Upreved so you know the exhuast never happened. I probably need a better tune. I'm gonna try the manual shift after next fill up and see if that gives me better MPG

What kind of speeds were you driving at to get that?

What are the mileage after 1,2 or 3 month without resetting it all the time, that's what important.
i could get high #s going straight without any hill or traffic.
put your number after 2 month all around style of driving.
that's would be good to know.
my mileage dropped from 20 to 18.5 after i put stock height tires in the rear with 60/40 highway(with hills)/city driving.

yeah that wasnt what I usually maintain for MPG's, on my earlier post i mentioned that i get around 18-20 or so MPG's on average. My style of driving isnt grandma and if it was Im sure I would have over 20 MPG easy. Another thing, I noticed if you drive hard it takes a long time to have your MPG's increase on your display and for the most part I get get inpatient and just reset it to see what Im getting at that very moment.

That would make sense then. don't know if I have the patience for that slow of driving in this car, Just feels unnatural.

yeah that's just to show how much this V8 can sip some fuel if you drive like an old geezer and have some mods done. I don't think I've driven 60 for a long period of time which is why i usually avg 18-20 mpg's.

any value in upreving a stock 2006 m45 sport? better performance, response and gas mileage? or is it better to wait to do exhaust, something else? I was going to leave intake alone as I heard mixed reviews on it already being setup to get cool air.

So what exactly did I just read here? Does a "tune" amount to a computer "profile" for when the transmission should change gears?

If so, are there any pre-loaded different "tunes", such as "valet mode" as described above or is that something custom??

An UpRev tune reprograms the stock ECU with up to 5 different fuel maps, ignition maps, and torque management maps. You switch between the maps using the cruise control switches. For me, UpRev through Seymore4 greatly increased the power, removed the off idle hesitation (throttle lag built into the stock torque management) and increased my mileage. It is not a "fixed tune", the maps are set up to YOUR car and can be changed at any time or put back to stock if so desired.

Thanks, Dean. Is this also available on a Y51? If so, would you switch profiles the same way via the steering wheel cruise control switch?

Where can I read more about doing this and where to get it done? ETA: Nevermind, a google search for uprev opened a whole new world for me :ohno: :naughty:
