Was considering going with either an Uprev or Bullydog tune for my car a couple months ago and decided it wasn't worth the money after all so never did it. Over the weekend on my way to a car meet in NYC I had a good run with an rx8 who kept shooting flames  now I've always wanted a car that occasionally shot flames but I figured getting that result from my 3.5 wasn't an option, even though it is straight piped and makes that constant backfiring sound  When we got to the meet I got to talking to the rx8 kid who said all he did was open up the flow in the exhaust a bit and then got a tune and had one of the maps tuned to make the engine run a bit richer. Would that in theory work; getting an Uprev tune for my 3.5 and having one of the maps run it richer so i can get start farting flames too lol? And what would the long term effects of that be any way? I plan on getting rid of the car within the next 2yrs for an m3 or by some miracle a gtr anyway.

If you had a map tuned specifically for it and a completely straight through exhaust (no cats and a straight through muffler), it is possible. However, seeing as you would basically need to be able to see light through your whole exhaust system, it would also be loud. Rotaries naturally run rich so it may have been easier for the RX-8 to shoot flames, but it should be possible with almost any car. Its the quick shut of the throttle body that sends extra un-burnt fuel through the (hot) exhaust. Even if it doesn't work, you at least have a tune for power.

I have the monitored cat deleted and straight piped on back from there with a custom y-pipe the thing is loud as s*** lol. https://instagram.com/p/BDiyAs0pIOH/ . Anyway I saw a video on youtube yesterday of someone with an 05 3.5 shooting flames I should probably inquire on what mods he has. As far as a tune for power goes I was under the impression that the tunes don't really add any noticeable changes because the cars are n/a which kinda makes sense. If I'm going to spend 500+ I at least want it to be able to notice a difference lol.

How did you delete the monitored cats without a tune? Or are you talking about the unmonitored cat where the headers meet?

Meant unmonitored I'm almost positive you and I have talked about my setup on another post before lol.

We have, which is why i was confused when I saw monitored lol
Here's a sound clip of my setup if you haven't seen it already. I'm considering the UpRev, but want to get the stillen underdrive pulley and grounding kit on first.

Sounds good man. You should def keep me posted on doing the UpRev tune I'm a little skeptical on it but would love to hear more input in regards to performance after the tune.

Other members state 30MPG highway, smoother power and torque curve, and 20-30 HP if you have mods like intake, exhaust, and pulley. Don't do the tune until you have all the mods you plan to make, or else you'll have to pay to retune.

See my signature, and the other thread with AndreMike. Racingline y-pipe, 2.5" custom midpipe with a 1x2.5" inlet to 2x2.25" outlets, two magnaflow 5x8 oval mufflers, Injen intake.

On another note, has anyone on here done the uprev after intake/exhaust? was there a sound difference? and was it worth the money?

RX-8 and other Wankel engines shoot flames easily because of the poor efficiency design of a Wankel engine. The power stroke doesn't complete the fuel burn entirely in the combustion chamber because as it revs higher, the flame front can't keep up with the leading edge of the rotor, therefore the fuel/air charge is still burning as it's shot out the exhaust port. Wankel engines do not run rich....just a design flaw.

In a conventional reciprocating engine, most of the combustion occurs before the exhaust valve is opened. If you run it rich, you'll just lose performance. Your exhaust is far too long to get any flames.
