Hi,I'll be removing my camshafts in order to send them off to PDM racing to be reground, and I have a question about the upper timing chain tensioner, as it pertains to camshaft removal. My chilton's 240sx manual doesn't say anything abut the tensioner, except that it's there. My question is: is the tensioner adjustable? How so? Is it spring loaded? If not, what good does it do? When i go to loosen the camshaft sprocket cover, is the tensioner going to decompress and jump out at me?

It looks like that I only have to loosen the camshaft sprocket cover and pull it out a bit to get access to, and removal of, the sprockets, anyone removed/installed cams on a DOHC KA24DE? Can anyone help out who has FIRST hand experience with this?ThanksMARC

First you have to completely remove the front timing cover to neutralize the timing tensioner. It is spring loaded. All you do is take a paperclip, straighten it and completely depress the tensioner. There is a small hole you can insert the paperclip into to hold the tensioner in place. To remove the cam sprockets use and adjustable wrench on the cams themselves and a ratchet and socket on the bolt in the middle of the gear. They've got about 120 lbs of torque on them so they're kind of hard to get off. The rest is easy.

Does anyone have a picture of the front timing cover that is to be removed? Where is the tensioner and what else can you do to take out the cams?
