upper spring mount cut out

I am trying to install new struts on my 95 240sx. The problem I have is that one manual I have says that the cut outs on the upper spring mount should face in torwards the car and another manual says that they should face out...the Chilton Manual. Which one is correct?? I think they are supposed to face in, but I just wanted to check. Thanks for the help.
