:) I had decided to replace my upper links a couple of months ago because they were both making that squeaky noise.... I was frustrated because within a few days of the replacement...the left side of my car was still squeaking.

the weather finally cooled off here in South Carolina, so I decided to re-pull the upper link on the driver side and lather it up with grease... no luck.

Well, it turned out that my Tokico blue on the front drivers side had somehow loosened up a bit to cause the noise. Problem solved.

I was going to tackle the sway bar bushings....but got too excited and wanted to drive the car.

Today was also the first day my son could drive it. He just got his permit. 15 is the age here... Imagine driving a Q at that age.

We washed it up... and pressure cleaned the engine first... it looks good.

1990 Q 146k miles. Chain guides not done. Just gamb|ing.

Was the shock loose at the top nut or bottom? Had that happen to me once on the top nut, and it sounded like a receiver type trailer hitch! As close as you live to T3 I'd really recommend a road trip for those guides... a 90 Q is a terrible thing to waste! I believe in this so much (after one guide failure) that I'm taking my "new" 90 with 47K to T3 as soon as I'm ready for her to become the daily driver.

It was the top nut. I also took off that little cap on top of the shock and lathered grease in that top bushing. Just for kicks.

I made a personal decision not to do the guides. I didn't find out about the problem until January.

I just won't put $1700 into a car that is not worth much more than that.

I respect Dennis and everyone else on the board, but there are too many other things that could go out on the car. It would be more cost effective for me to buy a medium mileage second generation Q or something like that.

This was a good deal for me 9 years ago when I paid $17,800 for a 43k mileage car with 10 months left on the warranty....

The only major issue I had was a transmission ($3200) 5 years ago with 93k on it.

If I lost the engine today.... someone would still give me 800-1000 dollars for the car.

It just all boils down to economic effeciency with me....and private school tuition...ha-ha-ha
