I'm attempting to remove the upper control arms on a 1982 720 in order to replace the bushings. There doesn't seem to be enough clearance between the frame and inner fender to remove the entire control arm in one piece. Has anyone run into this same situation? Does the control arm have to be disassembled to remove it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Got any pics of where you are having trouble? Nissan must have changed the mounting of the arms over the years because I have more room than that on my D21.

Here's a pic, I managed to turn the control arm 180deg in place to where the bushings are facing out. I may just re-use the old parts for now:

If it's not sloppy enough to fall apart, odds are the bushings are still good. on my 4x4 the whole setup is mounted on the outside, so it was easy to unbolt and stick in a vice. I should have left the bushings alone because it took a BFH and an act of god to knock those puppies out! Actually, after about 15 minutes with no luck I ended up getting a few pieces of metal and sandwiched one side at a time in the vise. I'd suggest trying to find some kind of pressing tool from one end after you remove the outer nuts and washers. I wouldn't try hammering on the ends though.

Old thread i know... but those bushings are insane to get out! I actually couldn't get mine out, so I took it to a mechanic and he said he'd have to order a special tool for some ridiculous price. No thanks. I ended up cutting the metal on the body with a saws-all, and just put in another control arm I got from scrap yard.
