BTW, I assume that you have the tape player in the center console (since you have a 2003) rather than the CD player (as in the 2004). In my 2003, the CD player is inside the glove-box, of course.

I would think that removing it would not create a problem with the controls for playing the CD's in the glovebox ... they just would not work when the tape player is selected. But, this is a guess! You could try to simply disconnect the player first as a test (a bit of work to reach the connectors in back) and see what happens, perhaps.
