ok, so i've been thinking about upgrading my stock stereo for the last couple of weeks.... i have two 10in treo subs & 2 interfire amps in my trunk & have been using the stock stereo with no problems. the sound is fine, i don't have any problems i just think that it's probably time to upgrade.

so what is a good one to get? i want to keep the steering wheels controls & i need a input for my mp3 player...

side question... is there a way to control an mp3 player (not ipod) with the steering wheel controls? and also have it shut off when the car shuts off?

come on Samantha, you have to give us more info than that regarding the stereo replacement..

do you want navigation?do you want dvd playing abilities?single din, doube din?

regarding MPS players (not ipod) my first answer would be no. Whatever you hook up to your stereo, in order to retain track up/down abilities, the connection needs to be a real connection... ipods use a USB type connection when hooked up to aftermarket (and now some factory) stereos. That type of connection allows real information (track name, artist name, album picture, etc( to be sent to the stereo. In turn, that ype of connection allows two way communication... i.e., the ability to actually control the devide from the stereo.

most MP3 players only use a 3.5mm jack, which usually ONLY transmits audio and in some cases video as well (as in on the Pioneer Avic units). Even a video ipod, with the correct 3.5mm jack, can send both audio and video to the stereo through the 3.5mm output, but it does NOT relay information back to the ipod.

I hope this all makes sense! In any case, I'll be up in the LA area during labor day weekend, so if you want to meet up and go over some audio stuff, we can do that.

Sorry, i thought i posted more info than that... lolI already have a GPS unit, it's a Garmin nuvi 750. there's no need for a DVD player, not sure if I want a single din or double... the double looks nice, and i think would fill the space out more... if I could somehow incorporate my gps into the space along with a new unit that would be awesome... lol

unfortunately, there's absolutely no way to incorporate oth the Garmin GPS and a single din into the factory location. You could get creative and create custom mounts, either fiberglassed onto the dash, or down in the storage compartment, but not both in the same area.

i know you have an mp3 player, but most aftermarket decks these days come with a usb port... THAT would allow you to retain track up/down capabilities on your steering wheel, provided you install the corresponding PAC steering wheel interface unit
