I've blown my two front 6.5" speakers and need to replace them. I figure might as well get some subs and upgrade my audio while i'm at it. i already have the pioneer premier f900bt as my head unit. other than that its all stock sound, non-bose. for subs i was looking for good sound quality. not sound muffled by the bass. but i dont mind sacrificing just a bit of SQ for a bit of boom. would a single 10" work fine and be enough? something like the Kicker L5? or should I go with a circular sub? what's the difference in sound for solobaric vs the circular ones? im a noob at sound... any recommendations on the front 6.5s? again SQ is key but i dont want to empty my wallet. And what amp should i get for the speakers? Is it possible to get all this for under 1k? preferably around 600-700?

love the engine cover my dude...

hmmm, want good SQ 6.5's... 1st, if replacing the 6.5's you should do it right, and replace the 3.5 deck speakers also! lately, I;ve been suggesting the Diamond Audio HexS600 components because

A. that's what I'm runnign and I love themB. For sound quality, they ranked in between two focal sets that cost thousanbds, and these sell for $200 on ebay shipped (get the square trade warranty) if you try to get these in a store, they will run you ~ $400

for $200, I haven't heard a better set of components! Broadfield on this forum is an authorized audio dealer, and he raves about another seto of components that he says are the best sounding components he's ever heard... I haven't given those a try yet, but I may on my wife's sedan...

I like solobariq's.... they sound good, but this is from a solobaric L7 owner on kicker's website
solobaroc owner wrote: "i have one 12" l7 in a max recommended 3.25 ported enclosure, all made to spec running off a jl audio 1000/1. i am getting tired of my rearview falling off. i did not break it in, rocks hard nonetheless. everyone i talk to about it say they hear me (almost 2 blocks) before they see me. i get ppl turning heads way up ahead of me. let me tell you there is nothing better than running on 20's with bass!!! the bass i can best describe it as harsh, it hurts when you turn it up. ive had infinity and jl and nothing compares. if you want an sq sub this is not it, if you want it loud, seriously look no further. ill be coming back, thanks kicker."
so my point is, solobaric L7's are like JL W7's.. loud and boomy as all get up, but harsh and not for SQ systems IMO!

image dynamics, JL audio W6's, memphis audio , those are good subs that can go in sealed enclosures that will give you a good mix between SQ and SPL and won't break the bank in the process!

True story, Doc. It will be tough getting everything for 600-700. A good sub will run you no less than $150, the comps Doc recommended like he said go for about $200 and then you still need amps (one definitely for the sub, and preferably another for the comps) and wiring. I highly doubt those Hex comps will sound decent off the deck.

Like most things, I would recommend you save up and do it right. You wont be disappointed.

I agree... the components will NOT sound good off of the stock deck.... IMO, there really is no wayto get around needing an amplifier to run aftermarket speakers... off the stock deck, they WILL start to distort and break up at higher volumes ... no way around it

Getting that target $600/700 kinda hard.

If you get only the front and sub then you can go with a 2channel amp and possibly be in the $700ish range.

well, you need BOTH an amp and the components... regarding the components, you will no longer need the 3.5" speakers, nor should you try to replace those. The components come with the 6.5 and a pair of tweeters. There are a few places where you can mount your tweeters.

Expensive: create custom tweeter mounts molded into your A-pillars

Cheap and Effective: Place the tweeters

a. on the triangle pieces where the corner of your window meets the door, on the other side of the side mirrorb. inside the dash, where your old 3.5" speakers were. You can easily make a custom, mount out of wood or plastiic. c. Just cut a hole and place them inside of your A-pillars

All three will give you slightly different imaging... I created custom A-pillars, went with a three way component setup (6.5", 4", and 1" tweeters) and mounted both the 4" and 1" tweeter in the custom A-pillar. (you must go with an active sound processor to do this, so this really isn't an option for you unless you want top spend a LOT more money)

correct.. they way our stock system is setup, the 3.5" speakers are full range speakers and the 6.5" speakers in the door or midbass speakers...

with your components, the crossover will blend the sound between the tweeter and the 6.5 midrange/midbass... setup correctly, it should sound better than the factory setup...

but i strongly suggest that you try and incorporate a sound processor in there at some point... it will make a world of a difference
