I have a 91 n/a 300zx. It had the factory Bose system. That was replaced by the previous owner. I bought it with a mini disk player (of all things) and pioneers in the back. Though I havent confirmed if the door speakers have been replaced because i havent taken the door panel off yet. My room mate wrecked his 03 altima sl and we are about to begin installing his 8 speaker factory bose speakers and processor into my car. Anyone with any experience in this or a similar field or just general comments or suggestions?

Where are you mounting the extra 4 speakers?

I wouldn't bother.

Bose systems are specifically tuned for the cars they're in; delays, frequency response, power levels. The Altima and Z32 are very different cars.

If you want to adapt them, do so without the processor/amplifier and get an aftermarket unit. You'll get much better results. Check the impedance of the drivers first, as they are likely 1 or 2 ohm, which is significantly less than the aftermarket standard of 4 ohms.

The plan is to cut and mount the tweeters in the door panel just ahead of the vents and I found a website where I can pick up some 6x9 boxes with pretty decent airspace for $20 each. And what makes you say that there would be delays or problems. I'm actually not using a head unit at all. I have a p.o.s (point of sale) monitor that we have fabricated to fit in the dash (miraculously) it is run by a computer mounted behind the passenger seat and the Bose processor has low level inputs that will feed directly from the computer. A trial run has already happened in the living room. It all has power and works perfect. We are using all original harnesses and wires.

Are those Bose's paper cones? If they are paper, I honestly wouldn't even bother, because they are going to sound terrible, and probably don't have a ton more life in them if they're already 9 years old. Also, remember just because it says Bose on it doesn't really mean that much...most stock systems, even the 'premier' ones sound like garbage. Furthermore, what the other poster referenced is Bose's digital processing...which is how they make up for all the deficiencies in their products by doing some crazy signal manipulations. They do this by manipulating the phase of each channel, and adding in extra information, so it all comes back together like they want. It's likely that they designed a pattern optimized to the Altima. So yes, it will produce sound, but you will probably start to notice "weird" out of phase, or echo-ing type effects, or other stuff because the Z is a much different layout.

Even so, what's this talk of cutting the tweeter? Are you talking about cutting the mounting parts...or cutting into the speaker itself? Cutting the speaker/cone would be a huge no no as it will no longer work.

I believe he is talking about cutting into his door itself to mount the tweeters.

On a separate note I know of formed speaker boxes for both sides of the trunk, I was looking into some bass for my car when I found them, can't remember if they are for 6x9's or 10' subs though, didn't bother to change my system

They are the paper cones. And I wouldn't just do this in hopes that they still sound good. I was always envious of his factory system. They sounded flawless. Immaculate reproduction of mid bass frequency and great low end to an extent. Every speaker operates fully with no crackle or distortion. And yes, I was referring to cutting the door panel itself. Regardless if the Bose setup works or not, it needs tweeters. The stock 4's and 6.5's carry no high end at all. Extremely muddy. And the boxes for the 6x9's that I'm referring to would actually sit on the shelf behind the driver and passenger seat. (2+0) I dont mean to run around in circles or spark debate. Just dont see what conplications could come about. If u say that the system from 03 isnt all that great, then surely it must be better than my 91 system?! I just sold my subs, 2 optidrive 12's and a 2000 watt monoblock. Needless to say, i spoiled myself pretttty bad. Now i just need anything more than the poppy, flat, low and high endless components that are in it now. And btw...these are free.
