Hey guys

I have done a quick search and came up with a few answers, but I am just wondering how hard it is to upgrade just the headunit and leave the Bose speakers in place? I am happy with the speakers, but my car doesn't have the CD changer, just the radio and tape player, and I would like to listen to CD's. I have purcahsed a double din Kenwood DDX5032 DVD. Am I correct in saying I need some kind of converter to change the signal from 4ohm, to 2ohm? Or am I way off? Does anyone know of any part numbers for what I need?

Thanks in advance!Brendon

Too bad you already purchased a new CD headunit (although not bad if that's the one you wanted). There are OEM Bose CD alternatives. My car has a late-90s Pathfinder/Q41 headunit with both tape and CD. It's a factory Nissan Bose HU so it is a direct replacement for the Q HU. It also interfaces with the stock Sony CD player, but that's not an issue for you I guess. The same headunit came in a few different Nissans and Infinitis from the late 90s.

The one I have is exactly like this one but lacks the "clock" button which is fine as the Q has the separate clock.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ivers

An adapter is required to swap in the unit MoD has, but if you find one with the Dolby DNR button on the lower right hand corner (J30 & G20's) it's plug and play.

The adapter is a $15 Nissan part.

Search some old posts by me and you'll find all the info on it.

the correct way to replace a bose system is to replace it speakers and all.

that being said, you can wire in an aftermarket hu with oem speakers. since the bose amplifiers are used to seeing a low level input and you are replacing it with a high level what will happen is the system will get louder a lot sooner, so be careful with the volume control.

if you are any kind of concerned with sound quality speakers should be replaced and external amplifiers used.

Absolutely. The adapters are a compromise, and most are a poor compromise.

Either stick with the original design, or replace it all, including wiring.

All the mechanical work I enjoy, however nothing will I enjoy as I used to installing high end car stereos as an MECP installer.

I find nothing more satisfying than dissecting the entire interior of a car, without so much as a scratch or broken clip, replacing with nice clean new heavy gauge wiring, running some beefy 2awg power cables, wiring up a few caps, fiberglass molded panels in the truck, calibrating speaker settings, tuning amplifiers, stealth installs with hinged secret doors, the sweet smell of a summer night's mist...

Ah, those were the days!

I could not have said it better myself, with one exception: I never got MECP certified. I failed my test by 2 points and never took it again. That's why I sale parts and have the P2 ASE certification.

Sorry guys, I think you missed the part where I have already purchased a new headunit, and I don't want to replace the OEM speakers because they sound good enough for me.

From my research the is something that can be wired inline with the speaker to convert the signal coming out of the aftermarket headunit to the signal that the amp/speakers need. I just want to know if anyone knows where I can get said part.

Just so that it is clear, I am not some audiophile who wants to build an amazing SQ stereo. I want an CD/DVD head unit and the original speakers.

I know there are better ways to upgrade the stereo, but this car is just my nice, daily driver car, I already have a car that I spend money on, hence why I am not replacing speakers that already work fine.

If anyone can actually help with what I need help with, I would really appreciate it.

ThanksBrendon

My understanding is that if you really want to throw in another head but keep the original speakers, is to go with one of these:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1....html

I'm considering a CarPC at some point in the future, and will be picking one of those up sometime in the near future to make sure I have it when I need it. The Bose systems are definitely not perfect, but if you don't have to run new wiring, don't.

Ok buddy.

The link that TellarHK put up is the part that you need. I bought one and have it somewhere in my garage if you want to buy one. I took it out because it sucked. I had my Alpine CD player w/ the direct XM and wanted it in the Q. I bought that piece of crap adapter and installed it w/ the Alpine. I turned on the HU to do a level test to make sure there would be no distortion. When I turned it on the volume was half way up (default for he HU). It was distorted like crazy. I checked the levels on the Integration Adapter and the were 1/4 the way up. I turned the volume down on the HU and the levels down on the IA. With the levels all the way down, I could get the radio to 20 (halfway) with bass turned down. At that volume you could barely hear the music with the windows up and you could not hear the music at all with them down. I rocked that for a month or so, then replaced it with my stock HU and the iPod connection that plugs into the factory changer (custom).

There's your answer bro.

I have an "Integrated Peripherals" brand line output converter for the Bose speaker system that I use with my aftermarket deck. Its just like the Scosche one but like someone posted above, does not distort the sound at all and sounds better than the Stock HU ever did.

Thanks for the info mate!!

I ended up taking it to a shop and telling them how it worked, and he just put it in without the converter. I was a bit annoyed when he told me that, but it doesn't really matter that much, it just means the volume doesn't need to be turned up very loud.

Can you source that part? My understanding was the Skosche was mediocre, at best.

Shop used this adapter:

Like I said, sounds very good. I listen to rock, rap, Sinatra, jazz, top 40 etc...each genre has great sound quality.

A good adapter is your friend, when running an aftermarket head unit with stock Bose speaker system.

According to the site, what is required for a 1994-1996 G50 is the ROEM-NIS2

Product Description Replace the factory-installed Bose radio in select Nissan and Infiniti vehicles and retain the function of the factory amplified audio system without cutting the factory wiring. Includes OEM-1 interface and a vehicle specific harness.

Product Features

Plug-and-play installation retains factory wiring integrityTransformer isolated for optimal sound and performanceMaintains correct phasing

Retains the function of the factory-installed amplified sound system

Or, the AOEM for "audio interface" and the latter for "radio replacement".

Sounds llike code, as one wouild not require another interface if one is repalcing Clarion with another same Clarion model.
