Hi, I went to get an alignment done on my S13 and found that my ball joints and tension rod bushings needed replacing. I just finished replacing them, but while I was down there, I noticed that the brace that the tension rod bushing sits in is starting to crack. It is this part, I don't know the name of it:

With my tension rod bushings I got polyurethane, since I'm replacing them, I'll just upgrade to better than stock. So, would it be an upgrade for me to get this brace from an S14, 300ZX, etc instead of an S13? I will probably just go to the junkyard for this, the old couple that owned my car before me towed it behind their RV, which is what I believe caused enough stress for it to crack. Also, while I am there I am keeping my eyes peeled for J30/Q45's for the front brakes, is there anything else to look for? For example, are the front and rear sway bars off of any previously mentioned models better than what I have? Thanks.

No, I don't believe another car (s14, z32, etc) will fit w/ the s13 for the tension rod brace/bracket.

What you are looking for is a Nismo Power Brace. You can get them from our sponsors... Midway, etc:

Yeah, even if they fit off of other cars it wouldn't be much different. About the only think I could imagine it doing is moving the mounting point of the tension rod if the brackets are different lengths. But I don't know if or how much it would change caster or if that change would be a good thing. Chances are it wouldn't even fit though.

If you just need it fixed get a stock one. If you got the money get the nismo, though I kind of doubt its worth what they want. If you can weld, get stock and box them like the nismos are.

If you know how to weld You would have to be an idiot to mess up. I would think the only real concern would be screwing up and melting the bracket to much when your trying to weld, but thats just knowing how to weld well.as long as you went slow so it didn't weld your really only boxing something in, then welding a pole between the 2 brakets. I dont think there is any fuel lines or anything near by so you could weld the cross brace on with them already on the car to make sure everything was gonna fit right.
