Hey guys, I have a rb26 in my S30 and I am looking at upgrading the turbos. I am really thinking about the gt2860-7 or the gt2860-5's or something in-between. I would like to see 500whp but at the same time that is pretty high in a S30 chassis as far as drivabilty. Does anyone run these turbos anymore are is everyone going single turbo these days. I am thinking the -5 might hit to hard and blow out traction, but i do have an aem ems so i can tune boost/traction control. I have read alot on the skyline forums but alot of those guys are AWD and their dynos are all over the place.

A medium sized single will have the same boost/torque characteristics as a pair of turbos you are looking at. Entry cost to either setup is pretty similar, but the single setup is less complicated and easier to work on. On the traction side, a 500whp rb26 only produces about 380whtq, so if you have a good LSD and decent tires, traction won't be an issue.

I was thinking about gt2860-5 which you can get for about 1950. If I go single I would probably go with either a raw brokerage manifold or a full race one, which by itself is 1750/2200. And probably run the GT35r or similar. Probably a ~66mm wastegate. So that would add about 2grand but it would be better when I build the rb30...

Honestly I'd go single and be done with it. Get a 6266 T4 if your worried about spool should be hitting full boost ~4200 ish (2.6, 3.0 would be ~3500ish) with easy 500whp + on pump 93.

As for tires I run 275/40/17 ET streets all the time. In 75+ degree weather I'm pretty much 100% hooked in 2nd on most road surfaces. If I do spin its not out of control and is still moving me forward nicely (nothing a quick pedal/slight let off cant take care of). I have 4.08 rear gear now.. plan to switch that to a 3.69 which will I think eliminate almost all slip in 2nd. I do have stiff megan coils which do not help, so I can only imagine a nice set of drag coils would greatly help as well.

My car weights 2940 fully wet, not sure how light your S30 is but can give you an idea.

Well if you went with that high quality of a manifold then yes it would definitely be more expensive. Also remember if you run a full-race or Raw brokerage manifold you will be buying 2 44mm wastegates considering they are setup for twinscroll. You may also have to fab up some custom downpipes with a set of twins considering how tight room is around the steering shaft.

Yea down pipe is easy, granted if I upgraded the twins I would probably need Tomei dumps so+500.

I am hoping for 305/40/17 or 315
I have not weighed her yet but am thinking around 2500.

How do you plan to keep traction with a RB30 under the hood ;)
