So im looking to upgrade my sound system in my 2006 roaster. ive been searching for speakers but cant find any that fits the front doors, other than Focal shallow mounts.

What speakers do yall use? Is there something i can modify that will increase the depths behind the door area to fit normal component speakers?

i figured it out. the stock speakers have a 1" spacer build onto it, when you remove them, the 1" spacer doesnt come off. you have to either make or buy a custom 1" spacer so normal component speakers will fit.

Please post the speaker, whether you were able to fit it or not, and if so, what you needed to mount it. If you used a different method to install a speaker that is already on the list, please post also so that all options can be included in the list.

Thanks for the fitment guide. I'm definitely going to switch mine out. The stock speakers are terrible... Does the rear speakers have issues with the spacers like the front?

^the rear doesn't need spacers, but you do not need to replace them. Just replace the front and that's enough.

I replaced front and rear, but I regretted replacing the rear ones.

most of the sound is distributed from the front...the back speakers could be disconnected and you wouldn't notice a sound difference

A really good set of components up front will make a huge difference and sound tremendous

it may not be as much sound for the money in the back, but i did 6.5 polk components all around and if i turn them off in back, its certainly a dramatic difference. granted, not as much as shutting off the front, but still a huge improvement having all four on.

shut off the rear factory ones? yeah, you may not notice. they suck, but i guarentee you, the components all around are worlds better than putting them just up front, provided you can quite the panel vibrations. probably why they put such worthless speakers back there to begin with.

nice man. should sound damn good. im still runnin mine straight off a panasonic head unit. need to spring for a nice 4 channel, but even without, its tons better than stock.

only advice i got is to put as much thought as possible into the layout before you chop on any stock plastic. i thought i was good when i cut into the door pods for the tweeters. ended up a bit low & barely squeezed through the panel.

http://zclub.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=372571^^mine after install^^

and if you do end up with alot of panel vibration...

http://zclub.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=437844^^heres^^ what i ended up doin to cure alot of it. and if you wanna try any of the tape, ive still got 99.5% of that monster roll.

+1.

Right now, I got Alpine PDX 2.150 2-channel amp to power the front Diamond Audio S600s speakers. The rear ones (forgot the brand) are powered by the Kenwood DNX812 headunit. I got Alpine PDX 1.600 to power two JL 10w3v2s (JL stealthbox). The rear ones were overwhelmed by the fronts; therefore, replacing the rears weren't necessary and plus it's a hassle replacing the rear ones especially if it's DIY, which what I did.

DIY'ed my whole set-up. the rear mounting was tough, but worth it if your not afraid to modify things a bit. ill admit theres better ways to do things than i did, but it works & looks pretty good.

you dont think the reason theyre over-powered in the back is because therye a lower grade speaker powered by the head unit?

overheat? Nope, I have 2 fans blowing and 1 fan underneath exhausting air (with a fan speed controller ). All these stuff are my computer parts.

no mounting bracket. I just drilled out holes in the tray and bolted down the amps. the Alpine PDX amps are stackable. If I were to do it again, I would mount the amps in the stock Bose sub location (behind driver's seat) for more air circulation.

Does your roadster have stock Bose sub? If not, then you need a box for your sub. There is a lot of space inside the stock Bose sub location. You can mount the amp in there as well.

yea i have the stock bose sytem. i was planning to just build my own box to fit in there. ive heard putting a sub in the stock bracket just sounds horrible. i have to fit 2 amps in there as well, ill have to scope it out, haven't seen inside there yet, i can only go off pictures right now.

I’m creating a car-pc, with an ASUS T-91 touch screenGot it all working yesterday, laid out on the floor to make sure it works, then I go to install the front speakers…what do you know!!! Fak!

So… I used the speaker face plates to get the distance and took out the screens carefully (glue back in) and 3 (1-1/2” – 2”) needed for spaces for each speaker…I put the door panel back on it barely touches, but enough clearance so that the speaker doesn’t vibrate against the speaker cover…. I may place the speaker about a ¼” up and to the left, just to have peace of mind…

Today I picked up some ½” foam core board. Going to cut out a hole and stack them until I get the right height…the foam core seems pretty good for acoustics too…Or balsa wood might be better, cut some sheets up and stack them…or even maybe 4 pieces of 1-1/2” x 1” dia, dowels and drill holes and get clean set up that way too…

Bought:2x Front: JL c2-650’s2x Rear: JL x650 Co’s1x Alpine 300 4ch

Already have;Bose stock system <-replacing of course1x Kicker zx450.2 / Kicker 350.4(died a week ago)2x Sub’s 10”? with Stealth box (came with car)

hey bud, why don't you create a new thread? Do a step by step if you can, and maybe just maybe, you might get a custom title. I do want to see your setup.

I have a Bose system on my 08 350Z and I was not happy with the head unit at all, looks ugly and very outdated. I just replaced it with a Pioneer Z110BT and I am very happy with it but it sounds just horrible with the factory Bose speakers. I played with the EQ settings etc for hours but no luck, it is not clear and not strong as I expected at all.

I was looking for a very similar setup after getting horrible sound out of my speakers. I heard Boston Acoustics speakers are really nice. Before I spend all that money I just wanted to check with you guys to see how it sounded with the setup you mentioned with

- Boston Acoustics Pro60- (1) JL Audio 10W3v3-2- Kicker 08ZX400.1- Kicker 08ZX350.4

As far as I checked online, you can get them all for $800 which is more than reasonable for this setup. I appreciate if you tell me your feedback with this setup and how happy you are with it.

i have not yet installed the setup in the 350z but i do have the same setup in my twinturbo 300z except im using JL amps instead of the kicker, and im using a kenwood kvt-819 flip out screen. absolutely amazing sound! the pro60's are incredible. definitely top of the line!

i bought mine off of ebay and saved about $100 per pair

here is a link to one - http://cgi.ebay.com/PRO60SE-BO...bed80

You guys may want to check out Hybrid Audio.... actually, you NEED to check out Hybrid Audio. I use to swear by Boston Pro's. I have been installing them for 17 years, back when they had the original Pro's. I have done probably 50 or so sets of the 6 1/2's. Then they released the Z's a few years back.... even better speaker. I was very happy with the Bostons except for their lack of mid-bass and slightly harsh tweeters.

I was then approached by Hybrid Audio two years ago to give their speakers a try.... I haven't sold any Pro's or Z's since. The Hybrids easily outperform the Bostons for even less money. At many national level IASCA and USAC events, Hybrid Audio front stage speakers are in more 1st place trophy vehicles than all other speaker manufacturers combined. Their mid-level speaker scored the highest score of any speaker ever tested at Car Audio and Electronics Magazine. Beating out competitors speakers costing literally six times as much($2000+). They now have their new entry level Imagine series available. Retail of $229..... I would stack these against the Pro's any day of the week. Now, none of the Hybrid stuff is going to have the million different mounting options like the Boston Pro's and Z's..... but who does!?! You really need to make your own baffle as thick as possible anyway to take full advantage of the Hybrid's mid-bass potential. These speakers single-handedly got me excited about car audio again.

Toby
