I have an '03 350z with factory nav. A couple of years ago, the nav screen stopped working. Instead of replacing the screen with a used one from another 03-05 and being stuck with Zenrin maps v.6.x, I'm wondering what would be required to be able to use the Zenrin maps v.7.x DVD from the 06-08 350Z's. Is it a limitation of the screen, the DVD unit, or maybe something else altogether - in what part is the "brain" of the nav system located? I am hoping that if it is the screen, perhaps I could install a used one from an 06-08 and then be able to run v.7.x (likely with some frankensteining of the wiring harness).

Most of the eBay ads seem to suggest that screens from 03-08 are all the same, but some ads show compatibility between 03-04, 05-08, etc. I called a couple of Nissan dealers but they said they had no idea.

Some background info on the problem... The DVD player sounds two long beeps shortly after starting the car, and the screen never comes on. I can also hear the DVD randomly "reading" the disc as I drive around. I've taken everything apart and checked for power and ground at all the connectors and tested the switch in the door/cover, so my conclusion is that it is likely the screen unit, as the symptoms are the same when I physically disconnect the screen.

Any input is much appreciated!!

Well, it looks like the screen is only compatible with 2003-2005 models. http://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/

Unfortunately, I don't know if you could swap in an '08 system.

Are you certain the DVD unit is functioning correctly? They usually bite the dust before the screen goes out.

Thanks for the quick reply and link! I compared it against the display for an 04-08, and it appears that the display unit is the same part number (28090M). Actually, all the individual components in the "kit" have the same part numbers (even though the AV/NAV switch is clearly a different style - now I'm really confused!!!

03-04: http://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/ni ... cd000.html

04-08: http://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/ni ... cf004.html

To make things even more confusing, 2004 overlaps between the two part/kit numbers above, and the part number you provided is for an 03-05 (which is again the same)!! I'm I missing something here...?

I can't say for certain if the problem is with the DVD unit, but I tested voltages on all the harnesses up to the display connector (as per the service manual), and everything was normal. It's just the screen that won't come on. The DVD player beeps two long beeps just after starting the car, and does this regardless of whether or not the display is connected, leading me to believe the display is likely just dead. Also, since I can hear the DVD "seeking" every few minutes as I drive around (which is what it always did when the screen used to work normally), I am assuming the DVD unit is functioning properly.

If only I had extra spare parts to swap to know for sure...

Any suggestions concerning the part number confusion above, or the diagnosis?

Thanks again!!
