Having just brought a beautiful '94 from IL to CA, I'll need to get it smogged. The emissions label doesn't say CA, so I'm guessing there's gonna be some $$$ involved to get it to pass CA emissions.

Any thoughts on how best to go about this? Selling the car out of state is not my preferred solution.

Thanks

Try a dry run first. Only difference was one (I think) temperature sensor, maybe a little different program in ECM.

If it's a Fed car, it goes through the computer as a fed car when your vin is scanned. There's no need to change anything unless it doesn't pass. If you want to reassure yourself you can always do a pretest. But we used to have cars from Canada coming in and passing smog. It'll be ok as long as it's not excessively modified and it burns clean.

You shouldn't need to do anything to swap it over, just get it smog checked and if it passes you're in. If it doesn't pass, it's because of a bad injector or plugs and you'll just need to fix the malfunction. I brought a 90 Q here from TX and it was not at all a problem.

Yes, the old laws made you pay $300 if it did not have a CA sticker, but that was made invalid in the courts.

Now if it passes the sniffer you're good.
