Sorry no pics for this post.
The 95 is fast approaching its hibernation period. I plan on changing the oil early next month, waxing it then parking her away in the garage until April 2011. Hard to believe it's almost that time, where did the summer go? I do plan on attending the Z car clubs annual fall foliage tour in October, after that it's time to hunker down.
The 96 is not looking too good these days. She drives like a champ, a little shaky but plenty of power and her Medusa looks command respect in any parking lot. The problem is she has a chronic check engine light for the Evap system. I have replaced the vent valve, checked for voltage in the lines and the light stays on. I think all the hoses back there are rotted bad causing this light. I would fix it except she blew a seal on the power steering gear and now she leaks really bad. Stop leak hasn't been able to cure it. In the condition she is I don't think she's capable of driving 80 miles a day at 75mph+ anymore. She won't pass inspection like this and I don't feel like tossing a multi-hundred dollar steering gear on a truck I didn't plan on driving past May of 2011 anyhow. Plus the lines are sooooo crusty that I'd end up replacing all of them if I dared touch them with a wrench. So I found a possible replacement.
I found a 95 4x4HB that has had a lot of work done to it recently including the timing chain, the rear brakes and the cab has been cleaned up and repainted. It has had some framework done by a welder, it needs front brakes and 4 tires. It has 90k on it, it's a 5speed and the bed was replaced by a custom steel flat bed. It looks nice in the pics but what's even nicer...no ODBII!! Another truck for me that doesn't have to pass emission tests and that's worth its weight in gold. The guy is asking $1950 for it or BO. I'd be taking a 2 year loan on it through my bank at a pretty decent interest rate for a 15 year old vehicle. For the down payment I'd sell one of my guitars that I don't play much anymore. Thoughts? I might just be the owner of yet another HB. I'd be the home for wayward HBs for sure. And 4x4 in NY during the winter is a good thing sometimes. Of course I would keep my 96 as it's paid off and will work fine for landscaping our yard or parting it out. We'll see, tomorrow night I cruise out to check it out.
