Our twin Cayenne Red 2012 Rogue SL's have covered 20,500 miles.

Rogue1 has 9,300 miles
Rogue2 has 10,200 miles

I can sum it up pretty easily. Boy, do we miss our German cars. We come from a long line of Honda & Nissan products, having switched to BMW and Mercedes back in 2008 before trading both for these Rogues in light of rising maintenance costs. The Rogues are cheerful, they're good vehicles, but we're just not enjoying it at all. Rogue2 is the one I make the final decision on and I won't be keeping it past this year. Rogue1 is likely going to stay around, as it is primarily a commuter vehicle between our house and work one town over, about 60 miles a day 6-7 days a week and is better suited to that than the BMW 135i it replaced.

Other items of note:

Both Rogues have a backlight problem on their navigation systems. The backlights (for the buttons, not the screen) flicker from time to time, and in Rogue2 sometimes go out altogether. I have to cycle the headlights off and on to get them to come back on. I plan to address this at the next service, but it's gonna be a pain.

Rogue2 had a rattling tailgate at 1800 miles that was fixed by our dealer at 5700 miles but has since returned. To be addressed at next service.

Rogue2 had warped rotors addressed at 8200 miles. Dealer resurfaced all 4.

Poor Rogue2 has been thoroughly violated. Over Thanksgiving weekend, a toddler was in the Rogue and managed to toss a sippy cup of milk up under the front passenger seat. This "leak proof" sippy cup went unnoticed - for three weeks. In mid-December, it gave up the ghost and leaked about a cup of milk into the carpet of the Rogue. The result was that the whole interior smelled like roadkill, to an unbearable point. I first cleaned it up myself, then when that didn't work the local dealer shampoo'd the carpets. Even that did not work. Finally, a professional service gutted the interior of Rogue2 and steam cleaned (with enzyme killers) from the bare metal up. There are quite a few scuff marks around the interior if you look carefully. That made me angry on a vehicle with less than 9000 miles, but there is nothing that can be done. Rogue2 will be gone by this time next year, anyway, I suppose.

Aside from these warranty or otherwise accident items, some other observations:

The leather looked very good when new but is clearly so-so quality. I use Lexol conditioners, but the outer edges of the driver seats both are wearing quickly from ingress and egress.

We enjoy the Bose systems, now that we have found the right settings for our taste after lots of playing around with it.

The navigation systems are very good, even though they are pretty entry level. Interestingly, Rogue1 does not recognize our street while Rogue2 does.

The HID low-beams, even as D2R, are just as good as the projector HIDs were on the BMW and Benz.

Bluetooth is very easy to use and very good at understand voice.

Heated seats! Neither of our German cars had them..

Fuel economy is mediocre. Rogue1 runs a 100% highway commute and averages just 24.5. Rogue2 has a lot of mixed driving, averages 23.2. This has been the case since new and is obviously never going to get better. Buying regular is nice, though.

Rear of the Rogue gets very dirty, very quickly. Spoiler makes automatic car washes miss spots. Needs rear window washer system to go with wiper. Really, really miss rain-sensing wipers.

Well, that's the story so far. :bigthumb:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, but I have to admit I'm having a little trouble following you and some of the contradictory points.

You say the Rogue's are good vehicles, but you don't like them..."The Rogues are cheerful, they're good vehicles, but we're just not enjoying it at all". The only specifics I see is that you don't like the NAV screen display but you also say "The navigation systems are very good". You don't like the leather seats, had a couple minor items that the dealer quickly corrected, and you had a rotten cup of milk spilled in Rogue2 but nothing else specific? You then list a lot of positives such as heated seats, Bluetooth and good head lights.

Sounds like more positives than negatives and no major problems, so why are you going to take a huge financial hit and sell Rogue2??!! You mentioned you traded in the German cars because of expensive maintenance, the Rogue has very minimal maintenance costs, but now you want to trade it in and incur thousands of dollars to depreciation? When you trade in Rogue2, what vehicle do you plan on purchasing?

I can solve your rear dirty window problem - The Rogue DOES have rear washer system, push and hold the wiper stalk FORWARD and the rear washer fluid will be sprayed on to your rear window!

Now how did I miss that about the rear washer. How embarrassing.

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. I can list positive after positive about the Rogue, but I just don't enjoy owning or driving it like I did the Mercedes that Rogue2 replaced. It's nothing really quantifiable.. the way the Mercedes drove, rode, and "felt" in general is not something I can put into words. My thoughts were that I had owned Nissan/Hondas for years, I would simply go back to them and take a break from the hobby that the Mercedes in particular had become. The Mercedes had been purchased off-lease at 25,000 miles but by September of last year, it had 145,000 and - perfectionist that I am - keeping it to my standards became increasingly expensive and time consuming, as it was constantly needing little things (bushings here, mounts there). I thought "Well I'll just buy a new Japanese car" and be done with this. That will cost me here in about a year. I miss my old Mercedes every day.

As I said, the Rogues are good vehicles. The "We're just not enjoying it at all" is not a dig a the Rogue, it's a realization we came to after a few months of ownership. WE, the owners, are the issue - not the vehicles. If I could "rewind" I'd have either kept the aging Benz or replaced it with a newer one. The 60 mile commute 6 or 7 days a week in the 135i was not working out, though. I don't know what I'd do, could I go back, about that.

Why did we pick the Rogues anyway?

There were three requirements we looked for when replacing the BMW and Mercedes, and the Rogue checked each one.

1) The Benz & BMW had Bi-xenon headlights. HID headlights were a must.
2) Back several years ago we had a 2002 Acura TL and 2008 G37. Both had Bose stereos, and we really liked them. We wanted Bose.
3) Heated leather seats.

I plan to stop by and update how the Rogues are doing periodically. We cover a lot of miles with them pretty quickly.

Thank you for the info and opinions!! And by all means feel free to be honest, there is no requirement here to always be positive, just call it like it is!!

You certainly have come from some high quality luxury vehicles and set the bar high for the Rogue so I'm glad to hear your opinions.

I have a 2010 Rogue. I traded in an Altima SE-R which I loved. I purchased it used with low miles (around 17000). With 8-9000 miles I also had thoughts of "huge mistake" My Rogue does not have HID headlights. I even have to turn off of the headlights myself ( which I have not had to do in 20 years). I have the BOSE system, but it does not sound as good as the other BOSE systems I had in my Pathfinder, Maxima, or Altima. I was ready go get rid of it just like RougeRogues. Then I thought about how the SE-R seats were uncomfortable. The person that owned the SE-R before did not take care of it and I am also a perfectionist when it comes to things like that. Then my wife and I talked about it and I purchased the Rogue. After a while I learned to turn off the headlights myself. I also joke that I always had a "nice" car until this one! But I like the Rogue overall. I knew when I purchased it that it was not a luxury or sporty vehicle. It does have leather and heated seats and other features that I like. I miss the power of my SE-R sometimes, But I get better gas mileage, less tickets (none), lower costs overall. I have calmed down and decided that I made the decision to purchase the Rogue. There are a bunch of cars out there. i chose the Rogue and now I am just enjoying it, the seats are comfortable. I felt like I was moving down and it bugged me. I no longer feel that way.

My rear hatch rattles every so often over big bumps on the highway, but it does not happen very frequently. Also, I've seen my backlights on the nav flicker a handful of times as well, but they never fully go out. I have just come to accept these things thus far. Maybe a grounding kit will cover the flicker.

adjust the rubber grommets on the hatch lid. unscrew them a few turns.

I am popping back in with updates.

Rogue1 10,505 miles
Rogue2 12,105 miles

This has joined the two Rogues in our garage:

Now everyone is happy for the most part.

Nissan has been great trying to work out the issues with Rogue2. It is actually in the shop now. They took my camera phone photos as proof of the lighting issue with the navigation system and are replacing the unit. Shortly after my last post here, the screen went out one night as well. It did come back on, but clearly there was a short somewhere. I consider this resolved.

The tailgate latch was loose and that was tightened, and the rubber stops were adjusted and the dealer also put an insulation strip behind the tag but the tailgate rattle is still there. They are still working on it. It drives me bonkers so I am not giving up.

The seatbelt buckle on the drivers side has started making popping and clicking noise while driving. This made me very uneasy so hopefully they are going to fix that as well, though no word back on it yet.

Rogue1 now has warped rotors.. to be addressed at next service. Once warranty is up we plan to equip these things with better materials in the brake department. You'd think Honda designed the brakes the way they've warped so soon on both. Rogue1 also has the backlight flicker on the navigation system, but so far no lights have gone out. We'll wait and see - Rogue1 has a 120,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that Rogue2 does not.
