Updates on iPod integration 2002 Q45?

Hello. I have been searching around here and google in general and haven't seen any new information about good ways to integrate iPod/iPhone connections to the stereo. I am fine with controlling everything through the iPhone/iPod and would even be fine with just the 3.5mm audio only input. If anyone has new information, please let me know.

I want to keep the stock head unit and make the installation of the adapter as unobtrusive as possible. On the other hand, I wondered if anyone has removed the tape player and replaced it with a nice looking piece of wood, carbon fiber, etc that also has the plug integrated.

There's a tutorial that shows how to wire it in to the tape deck audio input. I did it and it works great.
