One update on flush procedures:(Bear with me guys) talking to different service guys (the kind who actually care) and a transmission guy and doing some of my own research, I wish to update one fo our flush procedure recommendations for transmission's.I invite comments from everyone (especially Dennis of course).

The quandary is this: Its best to put a new filter in, <after> the flush of course (duh), but its also best to clean out the pan before the flush. So not to send gunk thru the transmission during flush. My compromise solution is this:

Doing both a pan drop first, to clear out any gunk, that way if there is a lot of it the flush wont send it thru the transmission. Then flushThen one more pan drop to replace filter.

Additonal labor shouldn't be too much and since cheapo transmission fluid can be used for refill before flush parts cost also not too high.

That is what I will do from now on, trying to get the best of both schools of thought, I know it sounds like overkill but it think it wont cost all that much more. Also its much cheaper than the double flush mentioned by others

Fred...:)

You have to negotiate the second flush price, as the hardest part is hooking the machine up to the cooler lines and of course the flush chemicals and the 15-20 minutes driving the car thru the gears on the lift.........once this is done it takes 12-15 minutes to disco the machine from the quick disco connectors, drain and refill the machine.............so a second fluid exchange without redriving thru the gears should only add 20 minutes total........$50-$60 sounds good to me.

Most of the metal is already in the pan and filter and on the magnet...........pan clean and filter replacement first, refill, then flush, reflush [reexchange] is best.

There must be two kinds of machines, I had my transmission flushed in Thunder Bay, Ont and they dropped the pan, then hooked the machine up, flushed the transmission then changed the filter and pan. Wayne

I did it the following way last time:

1. Full flush with Mobile 1 synthetic ATF.2. Drop pan, clean, replace filter, etc.3. Full flush again and refill with Mobile 1 synthetic ATF.

Since the equipment was still connected, etc., Frontier Infiniti gave me quite a break on the price for the second flush. Their transmission guy is quite familiar with my extreme requests and did the work, even though he felt it was not strictly necessary! :)

Of course, I brought in 28 quarts of Mobile 1 Synth for the work. Ouch.
