hey. ive just registered here and im about to get a q45 soon. im still looking for a good priced 1 around me through recycler and autotrader. the main thing im wondering about is what year i should get. i really like how the pre 94 looks with the 94 and up hood. ive seen this on a few jdm vip q45s and i wanna know if it lines up right. like if the fenders or anything get in the way. thanks

I'm confused. You wanna just swap the hood on an older Q?

If so, I think you -might- need new fenders, and a new bumper/front-bottom for sure. After spending all that, its cheaper just to get a 94 or 95.

yup. i think it looks better. i dunno y, it just looks meaner to me. that was the main reason i was askin, because a 94 and up would only cost about 1000-1500 more. but all the pictures ive seen have the stock fenders and everything. u can see in the pic i attatched that the fenders are stock. the fender area around the headlights are the give away. and im not too positive, but the front bumper should b ok. the front grille doesnt look as if it extends too far down or anything. thanks for the quick reply though.

and also, the earlier q45s were a lil faster so thats y i was hopin the hood would fit. they had more aggressive cams right?

I think what you are describing is a 94-96 Q45. Basically the 94-96's are the same body as the 90-93's except for the front clip.

Mechanically they are more different, with the 94-96's sacrificing some performance for reliability; ie: chain guides, more luxury items, etc.

I would say that the 94-96's are 85%-90% the same as a 90-93.

Hope this helps,

Andy

JDM Q stuff is very confusing.....it seems soooooo many early Q's have been modded so much it really is hard to tell what is original and what is aftermarket.....that is besides the obvious stuff.

well if you look closely, notice the lines around the headlights. it looks like the early model. the bumper line on the newer ones are more horizontal. its hard 2 explain, but these look like they are before the minor change with a hood from 94 and up.

It looks like the grill and possibly the leading edge of the hood are applied to the 90-93 hood. Notice that shiny streak above the grill......that piece is definately applied over the original hood. That is probably why all the JDM aftermarket "grills" cost a friggin arm and a leg....like $1200+ USD. :rolleyes

Bottom line is you CAN NOT put a 90-93 hood on a 94-96 Q.

The fenders are different, as are the headlights and corner markers.

I LOVE that front bumper/airdam.... What i wouldn't give for that first car's bodykit....

LOL -There you go!

Keep in mind that the 96 Q went to OBD-II and experienced a SLIGHT power decrease.

Good luck in your search, let us know if we can help!
